CrestaTech Marches Toward Universal TV on Any Device; Purchases Assets from Silicon Tuner Leader, Xceive

New asset acquisition leverages software technology with industry-leading RF tuner implementation to create TV receiver powerhouse

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Cresta Technologies Corporation, the innovator of software-defined, programmable broadband TV reception for PCs, announced today that it has purchased certain assets of Xceive Corporation, the performance leader in tuner IC’s for flat panel TVs, including all the intellectual property and patents, for an undisclosed sum.

Xceive, now a CrestaTech brand, will continue to offer its market leading IC products providing multi-standard silicon RF tuners to some of the world’s leading TV brands with the same track record of visual performance, reliability and support.

“The rapid convergence between TV, PC and set top technologies has created a massive technical challenge for the manufacturers of the next generation of smart CE devices, particularly TVs,” explained George Haber, founder, president and CEO of CrestaTech. “Further complicating this task is the need for global delivery of feature-rich broadcast-capable electronics at consumer price points.”

CrestaTV technology is a highly programmable software-based multi-standard demodulation capability and flexible front-end and interface that allows for the reception and digitization of any TV signal anywhere in the world.

Xceive was the first company to achieve significant and widespread usage of silicon IC tuners over traditional CAN tuners by TV OEMs such as LG, Vestel, Orion, and other top TV manufacturers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Europe. Xceive tuner IC products are 100 percent compatible with all worldwide analog and digital television standards and are currently shipping in TVs for nearly all major markets worldwide.

Haber concluded, “By integrating the universal software-defined TV receiver technology of CrestaTV with the very high performance Xceive tuner IC portfolio, manufacturers will have access to receiver technologies that can enable the rapid development of feature-rich, universal TV capable devices for simultaneous deployment to a variety of mass markets.”

CrestaTech’s purchase of Xceive assets will allow for ongoing revenue generation from the profitable TV tuner business, the rapid development of enhanced next-generation RF tuner chip designs, as well as the expansion of business beyond the TV, like All-in-One PCs and tablets applications.

“This is a major turning point, as CrestaTech now is poised to become the next major tuner powerhouse,” said Brian Mathews, vice president of marketing for the Xceive brand of CrestaTech. “By combining the established engineering expertise and technologies of CrestaTech and Xceive, and taking advantage of synergies in the distribution channel and manufacturing, CrestaTech has the ability to drive the global transition to universal TV on any smart device.”

CrestaTech will continue to support the Xceive brand RF tuner business. More information can be accessed by contacting sales@xceive.com or from the website at www.xceive.com. CrestaTech is simultaneously continuing the development of its CrestaTV business with major PC OEMS for the deployment of universally compatible All-in-One PCs.
