Disabled Veterans National Foundation Announces Grants for Veterans Service Organizations to Host their Own ‘Veterans Appreciation Day’ to Honor Veterans on 11-11-11

WASHINGTON--()--Disabled Veterans National Foundation announced the availability of several grants of $2,000 each to be given to veterans service groups who want to make this Veterans Day even more significant for area veterans. The grants must be submitted to the DVNF by October 14th (Veterans Appreciation Day Application Form)

“As our way at DVNF to directly support local veteran service organizations who recognize and honor our nation’s heroes this Veteran’s Day (11-11-11), we are providing several grants up to $2,000 to hold Veteran’s Appreciation Day events across the United States,” said Precilla Wilkewitz, President of DVNF. “There are many creative and fun ways a group can achieve this.”

Some ways groups can host their own appreciation day include;

  • Hosting an outing to a local sporting game or activity, ie: baseball game, bowling, movies, fishing or hunting excursions, etc.
  • Transportation to a local Veteran's Day ceremony, memorial or parade and a catered lunch or dinner after.
  • Hosting a flag ceremony and/or creating a memorial with local Boy Scout troop.
  • Requesting a local military speaker to come in and speak to residents.

We think it is so important to show our appreciation to Veterans, while providing them a chance to have a good time, build morale and strengthen relationships in their home or care settings,” said Wilkewitz of DVNF. Applications must be in to the DVNF by Friday October, 14th.
