Rutgers Center for Management Development Offers Sports Management Program in $400 Billion Sports Marketplace

Executives from The Big Lead, IMG College, MLB Advanced Media and Other Organizations to Act as Instructors in New Sports Management Course

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.--()--With the sports marketplace hitting $400 billion in 2012, the Rutgers Center for Management Development (CMD) has designed an additional Mini-MBA program, Sports Management in the Digital Age. According to Sports Networker, the top five sports jobs that require skill and education are sports management, sports marketing, sports finance, sports therapy and sports agent, just the topics covered in this new course.

Taught by the leading sports management figures from The Big Lead, IMG College, MLB Advanced Media and other well known sports management organizations, the newly developed curriculum addresses this need for sports management training. In addition to traditional sports management best practices, it will train attendees on the use of social media in sports, gaming and the business of fantasy sports.

“Being located in one of the world’s largest and most active sports markets, we have a great opportunity to help sports organizations quickly address the gap that exists today between current skills available in the workplace and those new skills needed to stay ahead of the new technologies,” said Eric Greenberg, Director, Marketing Programs, CMD, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. “Rather than valuing longevity and tenure of its employees, we see sports organizations hiring and promoting those employees who can understand and master these new tools. Whether you are a new graduate or working in the industry 10 years, this program should help increase your value in the workplace.”

Sports Management in the Digital Age will be taught in a four-day accelerated course, November 7-10, 2011 held in New York City. The course will also be taught in an evening format one-night per week for eight weeks, starting October 24, 2011 held in New Brunswick, NJ. The course fee includes an Apple iPad 2 that will be used to deliver the curriculum in addition to being pre-loaded with course materials.

The complete list of instructors includes:

  • Joe Favorito, Author of Sports Publicity, who will teach “Crisis Management in Digital Communication”
  • Michael Gandler, Sr., Vice President National Sales, IMG College, who will teach “Leveraging Digital Assets to Drive Sponsor ROI and Activation”
  • Maria Burns Ortiz, Social Media Columnist for ESPN.com, who till teach “Social Media in Sports”
  • Jonathan Press, CEO at PlayUp USA, who will teach “Gaming Meets Social”
  • Chris Russo, CEO of The Big Lead, who will teach “The Business of Fantasy Sports”
  • Dr. Harvey Schiller, CEO of Global Options Group, who will teach “The Future of Sport”
  • Bill Squadron, CEO of BloombergSports, who will teach “Best Practices of Sport and Technology”
  • Jeff Volk, VP of Business Development at MLB Advanced Media, who will teach “Integrating Digital Strategies and Mobile”

“What I like most about this course content is that it’s practical – because it’s taught by people who know! When participants complete the course, they’ll be ready to apply for a sports management job or move up in their current position,” Greenberg continued.

Fee for the Sports Management in the Digital Age course is $4,995. For those interested in academic graduate credit, a three-credit elective course waiver is available for an MBA.
