“Race to the Moon” Promotes Fun, Prizes and Better Health for 200,000 Pennsylvania Consumers

HARRISBURG & PITTSBURGH, Pa.--()--HealthAmerica today announced Race to the Moon, a new statewide program for its members to promote exercise and better health. Through accumulated participant miles, the goal is to collectively walk the distance to the moon (238,857 miles). Race to the Moon combines fun competition among family members, co-workers and groups, with prizes awarded as members progress on their journeys.

Race to the Moon will begin with a kick-off event in September 2011. Participants will enter and track their progress through HealthAmerica’s new social health management web site CaféWell and will receive free pedometers to log their miles achieved through everyday activity and exercise. The special wireless pedometers offer seamless monitoring and reporting with no tracking or downloads required by the wearer.

HealthAmerica will announce interim results as Race to the Moon progresses, noting which regions and cities are leading and lagging. A grand prize will be awarded in March 2012.

“Race to the Moon is part of HealthAmerica’s ongoing commitment to member wellness,” noted Mary Lou Osborne, chief operating officer for HealthAmerica. “Race to the Moon creates positive associations with health and wellness, encourages healthy and active behavior, and promotes member engagement and satisfaction. I look forward to seeing significant health results for many of our members across Pennsylvania.”

Information for participation will be sent directly to members about registering at CaféWell, the online home for health, which it launched statewide on July 22, 2011. CaféWell provides a single destination for consumers’ health-related needs, including social networking, expert advice, fun challenges and reliable (not advertising driven) health information. Unlike general social networking sites, CaféWell allows user to control the degree to which their identity is shared, with compete anonymity and privacy as the default. To inspire and motivate, CaféWell rewards active users with profile badges, tangible prizes and discounts on products and services. Although the Race to the Moon program is limited to HealthAmerica members, CaféWell is open to everyone, and HealthAmerica encourages anyone interested in becoming more engaged with their health to explore and utilize CaféWell.

Chad Fleischer, two-time U.S. Ski Team Olympian and advisor to CaféWell, added, “Race to the Moon is a model program for engaging people with their health that should inspire others to develop more proactive health and wellness efforts. HealthAmerica should be commended for its leadership and sponsorship of this event.”
