PowerPlay Solar nearing completion on 2 MW solar field at Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA

SHEFFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PowerPlay Solar Development, an integrated solar development and finance company, announces they are in the late stages of construction on a 2 MW (megawatt), 8 acre solar plant at Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA. When commissioned in the early fall, the project will be the largest solar installation in the state of Massachusetts and the largest operating solar facility of its kind at any private secondary school in the US.

PowerPlay Solar Development is constructing the project in collaboration with Spire Solar Systems, a solar systems design builder based in Bedford, MA. The electrical contractor is ML Schmitt, based out of Springfield, MA. The project will generate up to 45% of the school’s electricity needs and is part of the broad sustainability master plan submitted by Berkshire students to the School’s Board of Trustees. An important cornerstone of the plan is having the School achieve carbon neutrality by 2016.
