The Center for Professional Education at St. John’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science Launches Workers Comp Professional Development Certificate Program

AMCOMP’s WCP Educational Designation Program Selected as Course Curriculum

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Center for Professional Education at St. John’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science and The American Society of Workers Comp Professionals, Inc. (AMCOMP) have partnered on a comprehensive Workers Compensation Professional Development Certificate Program beginning on September 19, 2011 for the Fall Semester.

“In these continuing difficult economic times, employers and employees have realized that an enhanced knowledge base are among the two vital elements necessary to ensure success for both the company and employees in today’s market.”

Donald T. DeCarlo, AMCOMP Founder and Chairman stated that, “In these continuing difficult economic times, employers and employees have realized that an enhanced knowledge base are among the two vital elements necessary to ensure success for both the company and employees in today’s market.”

This 12-week program in Workers Compensation is designed to provide a detailed foundation of knowledge regarding changes and concerns relating to workers comp, the law and insurance professionals. The curriculum identifies several workers compensation issues and explores how the many aspects of the system work together. Topics include history, law and policy, coverage, underwriting, claims, risk management, pricing, trends, among others. The Course will be taught utilizing AMCOMP’s newly published text book Workers Compensation: The First 100 Years authored by DeCarlo and Roger Thompson, a former Travelers executive.

DeCarlo continued, “Employers have realized the value and importance of continued education and the effects it has on the company’s bottom line. Creating a pool of qualified candidates to lead the industry in the coming decades will ensure that policyholders and their employees are getting the best products and services available. Upon completion of The Center’s Certificate Course, attendees will be eligible to sit for AMCOMP’s WCP designation exam and obtain AMCOMP’s certified Workers Compensation Professional (WCP) designation. It is a double bang for one course of study.” DeCarlo concluded by stating “AMCOMP is committed to continued education of emerging trends and issues in workers compensation and employers liability. We share this information through our newsletters, annotated Digests on law and insurance, seminars and now in the classroom.”

The course will be taught by Donald T. DeCarlo, Esq., AMCOMP Founder and Chairman and Thomas A. Nowak, Vice President Chartis Insurance.
