FAIRFAX, Va.--()--ICF International (NASDAQ:ICFI), a leading provider of consulting services and technology solutions to government and commercial clients, has hired Charles M. Akin, Jr., as enterprise/systems architect. Mr. Akin is an expert in health informatics, federal enterprise architecture, and information technology (IT) best practices that ensure stakeholders have the information they need for critical clinical, public health, and policy decisions.

Mr. Akin has nearly two decades of experience in informatics and public health, supporting government clients with a variety of enterprise-wide and domain-specific IT solutions. Before joining ICF, he served in several senior technical and business roles for a large IT integrator, focusing on the development and implementation of service-oriented IT architectures, systems integration, and business process management. Previously he was the sole proprietor of an IT company serving both national firms and local clients in Atlanta.

Mr. Akin’s experience has given him insight into the importance of health informatics and key issues in public health, including electronic medical records, data interoperability standards, and emergency and outbreak preparedness and response.

“Chuck’s experience will contribute to ICF’s growing information technology capabilities in Atlanta, where he will work with our staff of more than 250 professionals supporting the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention,” said David Cotton, senior vice president for ICF International. “Chuck adds a level of understanding and architectural vision that will strengthen ICF’s robust suite of health informatics capabilities.”

“Health data aggregation and the opportunity for scientists and public health professionals to perform real-time analysis and dissemination of their findings are ever-increasing challenges that must be supported by software application tools and infrastructure innovations. Chuck’s vast experience and passion for designing these solutions will enable ICF to deliver services that expertly support our clients’ health IT strategies,” said Mary Whitley, senior vice president for ICF International.

Mr. Akin has received multiple awards from the CDC and from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for his service.
