SONOMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) today endorsed Senate Resolution 251: Expressing Support for Improvement in the Collection, Processing and Consumption of Recyclable Materials Throughout the United States, as introduced August 2 by co-chairs and co-founders of the U.S. Senate’s Recycling Caucus, Senators Tom Carper (D-Delaware) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine).
The resolution further resolves that the Senate supports Design for Recycling principles; U.S. policies that recognize and promote recyclable materials as essential economic commodities; and policies that promote using recyclable materials as feedstock.
“The adoption and implementation of strong public policy is critical to reinvigorating domestic recycling; NAPCOR supports this resolution and continued leadership in this area,” said Dennis Sabourin, NAPCOR Executive Director. “We also anticipate that the many benefits of recycling that the resolution details – whether resource and energy conservation, feedstock, domestic jobs and infrastructure – will be brought to bear on other relevant federal policy discussions moving forward.”
Mr. Sabourin went on to add that, at the current United States recycling rate, the domestic reclamation of post-consumer PET bottles saves just under 1,000,000 barrels of oil annually.
The bipartisan Senate Recycling Caucus was established in 2006, along with an equivalent House Recycling Caucus, as a means to educate Congress and its staff on the economic benefits of domestic recycling, and to support public policies aimed at increasing recycling across the country.
