MOVIECLIPS Announces Partnership With YouTube to Bring the Largest Collection of Licensed Movie Clips to YouTube

Announcement Follows $7M Series B From MK Capital And Previous Investors Shasta, First Round, SoftTech, Richmond Park Partners, And Angels including Allen DeBevoise, CEO of Machinima

VENICE, Calif.--()--MOVIECLIPS today announced a partnership with Google to bring more than 20,000 licensed Hollywood HD movie clips to YouTube. The clips will be featured in the Movie Extras on the YouTube VOD platform (youtube.com/MOVIES) and will be accessible through the MOVIECLIPS YouTube channel (youtube.com/MOVIECLIPS).

“We are honored to partner with Google to bring the best movie moments to an avid movie audience on YouTube,” said Zach James, Co-Founder of MOVIECLIPS.

MOVIECLIPS has the largest collection of licensed Hollywood movie scenes on the web. Using the company’s proprietary technology, a team of Content Curators assigns up to 1,000 points of relevant data points to every scene relating to everything from action to mood to setting, and prop. This data enables consumers to discover movies through curated lists and games.

“Our goal is to promote the discovery of movies,” said MOVIECLIPS Co-Founder Richard Raddon. “By making our clips accessible on the biggest video platform on the web, we unlock the power of movie clips to promote feature film purchase and rental.”

This partnership between Google and MOVIECLIPS will mean that for the first time YouTube users will have access to their favorite scenes in the form of high-quality clips licensed directly from the movie studios and never before available on YouTube. Each HD clip uploaded by MOVIECLIPS will direct users to thousands of related clips after it finishes. The MOVIECLIPS Channel will also offer movie games, clip mashups, trivia, trailers, and original movie related shows and programming.

“There’s a sea of content that can add to a YouTube user's movie experience thanks to Movieclips.com,” said Camille Hearst, YouTube’s Product Marketing Manager for Music, Movies, and Shows. “We’re excited to be working with MOVIECLIPS.com to provide users with exactly what they're looking for when they want to get more into movies on YouTube.”

This growth is supported by Series B funding round led by MK Capital. MK, which has offices in Chicago and Los Angeles, is also a founding investor in Machinima, one of the leading publishers on YouTube.

“We are extremely excited to have a new funding partner in MK Capital. MK has great experience and knowledge in building a premium video experience on YouTube,” added Zach James, Co-Founder of MOVIECLIPS.

“Based on our relevant experience in Machinima, we find MOVIECLIPS’ business to be extremely promising,” said Mark Terbeek, a partner at MK Capital. “We believe MOVIECLIPS has the chance to dominate the movie category on YouTube like Machinima leads the gaming category and VEVO leads the music video category.”

Previous MOVIECLIPS investors Shasta Ventures, First Round Capital, Richmond Park Partners, Jeff Clavier of SoftTech, Naval Ravikant, Jeff Kearl, and Tom McInerney participated in the round. Allen DeBevoise, CEO of Machinima, and Gordon Rubenstein also participated.

Mark Terbeek of MK Capital will join Sean Flynn (Shasta Ventures) and Adam Lilling (Launchpad LA) on the MOVIECLIPS Board of Directors. MK Capital’s Yair Landau, who served as Vice Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, will become a Board Observer.
