Greater Clothing Company Launches National Geographic Apparel Collection

Explorer-Inspired Menswear Collection Captures Imagination of Wearer

NEW YORK--()--Greater Clothing Company, National Geographic apparel licensee and New York-based, high-end clothing company, today announces the launch of the National Geographic Apparel 2011 Fall Collection, available at better department stores in North America just in time for winter.

Design inspiration for this lifestyle and performance menswear apparel is drawn from the personal stories and photographs of National Geographic explorers. Since its founding in 1888, the National Geographic Society has inspired people to care about the planet by supporting the work of thousands of explorers, scientists and photographers documenting the world and all that is in it.

“We are excited to work with National Geographic in offering the retailer and consumer a new way of looking at performance fashion,” said Barbara Graffeo, principal at Greater Clothing Company. “By providing the modern adventurer a fusion of functional design, fashion and price value with a compelling story that grounds the collection and individual pieces within the awe-inspiring adventure and rich expedition culture of the National Geographic Society, our collection will capture the imagination of the wearer.”

The initial collection includes two series that reflect the adventurous spirit of National Geographic:

The Rugged Series is designed for the day-to-day explorer and combines eco-friendly fabrications with functional design for the digital age, suitable for trekking metro and suburban landscapes. Pieces include the Herringbone North Region Explorer Jacket and Vest, Cameraman Utility Jacket and Vest, and the Fisherman Peacoat. The additional pockets, linings, closures and other practical features make everyday adventuring more comfortable.

The Storm Series is a traditional rainwear collection of jackets and coats delivering extraordinary price and fashion value. Fabricated from lightweight, breathable materials and sporting Nat Geo style, these pieces are designed to keep the day-to-day explorer comfortable and dry when life’s treks call for venturing into stormy weather.

“Our goal is to enable people to explore the world and all it has to offer,” said John Dumbacher, senior vice president of Licensing for National Geographic. “With the introduction of National Geographic Apparel from Greater Clothing Company, we will have a rich array of lifestyle and high-performance clothing for National Geographic’s own explorers to wear in the field as well as garments for those traveling and exploring the world on their own.”

The National Geographic Apparel Collection will be available nationwide beginning October 2011. Greater Clothing Company is already working on broadening the collection to include a technical line and an active-wear assortment expected to release early next year.

National Geographic’s net proceeds support vital exploration, conservation, research and education programs.
