WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass.--()--Shaw’s Supermarkets, Pepsi and Frito-Lay today announced they have donated more than $126,000 to local organizations throughout New England. The donations are the result of the three companies coming together this past spring to create the “Working Together for Our Community” (WTFOC) programs with the goal of enabling individual stores to directly impact their communities.
“At Shaw’s, we place a strong emphasis on giving back to the communities we serve and are always looking for opportunities to enable our stores to support their local organizations”
Between March 25 and May 19, one percent of all Frito-Lay and Pepsi products purchased at each participating store were donated to the program. The resulting WTFOC total allowed all 169 Shaw’s stores the opportunity to select one local organization of their choice to receive a $750 donation.
“At Shaw’s, we place a strong emphasis on giving back to the communities we serve and are always looking for opportunities to enable our stores to support their local organizations,” said Mike Stigers, president, Shaw’s. “Thanks to Pepsi and Frito-Lay, we were able to execute a great program to recognize and reward 169 various respected organizations.”
Among the local award winners were The Friendly Kitchen in Concord Heights, the College Application Education Project in Lynn and the Northampton St. Vincent DePaul Society. Each organization was chosen because they are well respected and making a difference in their specific community. The local organizations were invited into the stores and presented checks from the program throughout the eight-week duration this past spring.
Shaw’s and Pepsi are no strangers to giving back to their communities. Earlier this month, the two companies organized a tree planting day at the historic Rocky Point Park in Warwick, RI.
Pepsi and Frito-Lay are also currently teaming up with Shaw’s with a new program called A Better Community Starts Here that runs into August. More details can be found in Shaw’s stores and on their website. These events and promotions are a way for Pepsi and Frito-Lay, divisions of PepsiCo, Inc., to demonstrate their commitment to the communities in which they operate as part of PepsiCo’s mission of Performance with Purpose.
