RBC Royal Bank Named Title Sponsor of Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RBC Royal Bank has been named title sponsor of the Caribbean’s premier golfing event, the 55th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC 2011).

“We are delighted that RBC has expanded its relationship with the CGA, and this year’s championship will continue to showcase our amateur players, the Championship, Millennium Lakes Golf Club and Trinidad and Tobago to thousands of fans around the Caribbean and worldwide.”

Trinidad and Tobago will host the best of the Caribbean’s amateur golfers when the RBC sponsored tournament tees off from 1st to 6th August, 2011, at the Millennium Lakes Golf Club, Trincity.

In sharing plans for the event, President of the Caribbean Golf Association, Asraph Ali, was effusive in his praise for the main sponsors. “We are quite pleased that RBC Royal Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in the region, has agreed to assume the role of Title Sponsor for the CAGC 2011; they have brought significant resources to the successful management and hosting of the event,” he said.

Suresh Sookoo, CEO, Caribbean Banking, RBC added: “RBC proudly supports golf around the world through high profile relationships with the PGA Tour, the PGA of America, Golf Canada and the Stephen Ames Cup for young golfers from Trinidad and Tobago and Canada. In the Caribbean, where golf is a growing sport, RBC considers this sponsorship an important element of our brand and business objectives and an opportunity to be at the forefront of broadening the appeal of the sport.”

2011 marks the twelfth occasion that Trinidad and Tobago will host the RBC Royal Bank Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships and the first time that the Millennium Lakes Golf Club, with its par 71 Championship layout, will be serving as host course.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association (TTGA), Robert Costello, commented: “We are delighted that RBC has expanded its relationship with the CGA, and this year’s championship will continue to showcase our amateur players, the Championship, Millennium Lakes Golf Club and Trinidad and Tobago to thousands of fans around the Caribbean and worldwide.”

The RBC Royal Bank 55th CAGC 2011 will showcase the individual skills of the players in the national teams, as they strive to cop trophies in six categories:

- Men’s Open Competition   Hoerman Cup
- Men Over 50 Years Francis and Steele-Perkins Trophy
- Men Over 60 Years Higgs & Higgs Trophy
- Men Over 35 Years Ramon Baez Trophy
- Ladies’ Open Competition George Teale Trophy
- Overall Team Championship Arthur Zaide Trophy

When asked about Trinidad and Tobago’s chances for success, Robert Costelloe, TTGA President, gave fair warning: “This year we will be represented by one of our strongest teams in recent years, boasting an admirable combination of youth and experience,” he notes. “Along with the home course advantage, the prospects of victory look really good.” Challenging the hosts for regional supremacy on the links will be teams from around the region including: The Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Puerto Rico, and Turks and Caicos and US Virgin Islands.
