UC Berkeley Extension Opens Fall 2011 Enrollment

Highlights include new counseling and psychology program and courses with ties to Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and SFMOMA

BERKELEY, Calif.--()--Fall courses are open for enrollment at UC Berkeley Extension. The continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley, UC Berkeley Extension offers professional development and personal enrichment in the classroom and online for adults in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. In addition to offering over 500 courses this fall, Extension is accepting registrations for the new Post-Baccalaureate Program for Counseling and Psychology Professions.

The Post-Baccalaureate Program for Counseling and Psychology Professions is ideal for those who want to change careers or become more competitive for graduate and professional programs in psychology, mental health, or counseling. The program also offers academic advising and assistance in initiating the graduate school application process. A bachelor’s degree is required.

Also new are two Art and Design courses with special ties to San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) and Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Bay Area Now 6: An Insider’s View (September 14–October 5) examines BAN6, YBCA’s signature triennial exhibit and a showcase of 18 Bay Area contemporary artists. Class sessions feature gallery tours, artist studio visits, and performances. Abstraction vs. Figuration: Five Decades of Modern and Contemporary Art (October 11–November 15) studies key 20th-century artists from the permanent collection at SFMOMA. Julie Charles, SFMOMA associate curator of education, leads each class through specific galleries to analyze and discuss works.

New courses are also available in Behavioral and Health Sciences; Business; Computer Technology and Information Management; Education; Humanities, Languages, and Personal Development; Sustainability Studies; and Writing, Editing, and Technical Communication.
