Winning screenwriter selected by Hollywood veterans Ed Burns and Steven De Souza; video produced and distributed by top online comedy network Break Media

LOS ANGELES--()--Break Media, a leading creator and publisher of digital video content, and Scripped.com, the largest online community of screenwriters, today named Boston comedian Evan Kaufman as the winner in their contest to identify an up-and-coming screenwriter, produce his or her script, and promote it on Break.com. Kaufman’s script, “The Cutest Website,” has been produced by Break’s Creative Lab and is featured not only on Break.com, the number-one comedy site on the web, according to comScore, but also on Break’s popular mobile app and YouTube channels.

“Evan’s script stood out as the most original and the funniest and most relevant for the web audience of the hundreds of submissions we received”

“Evan’s script stood out as the most original and the funniest and most relevant for the web audience of the hundreds of submissions we received,” said Jonathan Small, SVP Editorial and Programming for Break. “We’re excited to be working with such a talented newcomer, helping him take his script from an early draft to a full-fledged video viewed by millions of people. ”

The contest, which ran for six weeks and received more than 300 submissions, called for screenwriters to write a script for a comedic original web video. Entries were judged by a panel of industry experts, including actor and director Ed Burns, writer Steven De Souza, and top executives from the Break Media development team, including Jonathan Small, Greg Siegel, and Andy Signore. Kaufman, who was selected from a group of finalists, is a Boston-based writer, actor, and comedian. Currently an actor at Improv Asylum in Boston's North End, he performs improv and sketch five nights a week. His website, Evankaufman.com, showcases an array of his past and current comedy projects.

Break is placing a strong emphasis on original content in 2011, with plans to produce thousands of original videos this year, and is actively seeking out new and innovative ways to produce original videos and find fresh talent. Entertainment industry veteran and former Endeavor talent agent Greg Siegel recently joined the Break executive team as SVP Entertainment Development and will be an instrumental force as the company continues to work with top industry talent to produce more original web videos. Break Media recently announced partnerships with talent like Zachary Levi, star of NBC’s “Chuck,” and Taryn Southern, a YouTube star and a regular on shows like CBS’s “Rules of Engagement.”
