WASHINGTON & SAN FRANCISCO--()--Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine and Future 500 announced today a joint campaign to secure 100 commitments from companies in the 100 days leading up to the CR COMMIT!Forum in New York City on September 26-27, 2011. As part of the campaign, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are calling for commitments in three areas: Transparency & Reporting, Environmental Sustainability, and Shareholder & Competitive Advantage. These will drive the COMMIT!Forum program, where companies can learn about and ultimately sign these commitments, as the conversations started there continue far into the future.
“The world’s best companies drive better performance across their supply chains, on water, energy, recycling, and human rights”
“Working with our NGO partners, we’ve identified a set of core issues facing society where businesses can have a big impact,” said Richard Crespin, President of SharedXpertise, publishers of CR Magazine. “Through the campaign we will educate companies on how they can play a role and offer them the chance to become directly engaged in seeing these commitments to fruition.”
“The world’s best companies drive better performance across their supply chains, on water, energy, recycling, and human rights,” said Bill Shireman, President and CEO of Future 500. “The COMMIT!Forum gives them the opportunity to communicate and build on these commitments.”
The campaign seeks to engage companies on how they can make a substantive impact on the world in which they operate. Examples of specific commitments include:
- Meeting the world’s biggest sustainability challenges through the Millennium Development Goals
- Corporate transparency through the Global Reporting Initiative,
- Carbon and water use through the Carbon and Water Disclosure Projects,
- Food security via the Humane Society’s campaign to end factory farming, and
- Civil society through the National Democratic Institute’s Extractive Industry’s Transparency Initiative.
These are just some of the NGOs and commitments articulated to date. To see a full list of the commitments and NGO partners, please visit www.commitforum.com. When registering to attend the Forum, companies can declare a specific commitment or indicate their interest in learning more about commitments appropriate for them.
Future 500 and CR Magazine will track and report every commitment made, publishing them in CR Magazine as well as on their respective web sites. At the COMMIT!Forum, major media are invited to attend the conference’s closing press conference to hear about all the commitments made during the campaign. CR Magazine will also cover progress made on the commitments in the weeks and months after the Forum.
