Research and Markets: A Thailand Telecommunications Report for Q3 2011 - As Wages Rise Consumer Spending is Expected to Remain Robust

Thailand continued to rank in the bottom half of BMI's latest Business Environment Ratings for the Asia- Pacific region. It is unlikely for Thailand to move up the rankings in the short term due to inherent weakness.

That said, Thailand's private consumption growth is expected to reach 5.0% in 2011, and this report believes that consumer spending will remain robust, which bodes well for the country's telecoms industry. Data from the Bank of Thailand (BoT) indicated that nominal wages rose by 13.7% y-o-y in November (10.9% in real terms) 2010. Moreover, the report notes that average wages have already pushed passed pre-crisis highs.
