Charlie D. Baker Joins MedVentive Board of Directors

Board Adds Industry Leader with Extensive Healthcare Experience

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Massachusetts businessman and former Republican gubernatorial nominee Charlie Baker will join the MedVentive governing board effective immediately. Mr. Baker has led a distinguished career in the healthcare industry and public service.

In the 1990s, Mr. Baker served as Secretary of Health and Human Services and Secretary of Administration and Finance under Massachusetts Governors Bill Weld and Paul Cellucci, where he earned the Distinguished Service Award from the National Governor’s Association.

Starting in 1999, Mr. Baker served as CEO at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care for 10 years. Under his leadership the non-profit health benefits company went from state receivership to 24-quarters of profitability and earned the highest-rating in the U.S. for six years for Member Satisfaction and Clinical Effectiveness.

Mr. Baker is currently Entrepreneur-in-Residence at General Catalyst Partners, a venture capital and growth equity firm. In addition, he serves on the governing boards at The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare in Boston and HealthView, a small tech company offering financial advisors and their clients sophisticated tools for projecting out healthcare spending during retirement.

“We are delighted that Charlie Baker has accepted our invitation to join the MedVentive board. It is a testament to his confidence in MedVentive’s ability to positively contribute to enabling health systems to manage cost and quality” said Nancy Ham, MedVentive’s president and CEO. “His willingness to contribute his extensive business, public service and healthcare expertise to our company as we help providers and payers navigate an evolving healthcare landscape will be extremely valuable.”

“Making our healthcare system more transparent and rewarding providers for providing better-quality care more cost-effectively is essential to solving our country’s healthcare crisis,” said Mr. Baker. “MedVentive is leading an effort to deliver the actionable analysis and feedback that providers need. I look forward to contributing to MedVentive’s success, which will in turn help make our citizens healthier and more successful.”

About MedVentive

While healthcare was evolving the concept of an accountable care organization, MedVentive was busy operating as one. MedVentive was founded as the Provider Service Network (PSN) in 1997 by the CareGroup Healthcare System, an integrated, at-risk network of 4,500 physicians and eight hospitals that cared for more than 450,000 at-risk patients. The network included the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching facility of Harvard Medical School.

Our origins as an ACO give MedVentive a deep understanding of provider organizations and the healthcare environment. Having been an at-risk provider network, MedVentive is uniquely qualified to support an organization’s transition from a fee-for-service payment environment to risk-based contracting, and provide the clinical integration/population management infrastructure necessary to be successful under this new model.
