HPC Advisory Council Announces Winner of Spring 2011 University Award Program

Proposals for the Next HPC Advisory Council University Award Program Now Open;

Winner to be Announced in November at SC’11

HAMBURG, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ISC’11 – The HPC Advisory Council, a leading organization for high-performance computing research, outreach and education, today announced that Dr. Marco Aldinucci from the University of Torino has received the prestigious HPC Advisory Council Spring 2011 University Award for advanced research in the subject area of high-performance computing for his proposal, ‘Effective Streaming on Multi-core by Way of the FastFlow Framework’. The research activity is a collaboration between scientists and students from both the University of Torino and the University of Pisa in Italy. The researchers include Dr. Marco Aldinucci, Dr. Massimo Torquati, (co-designer of FastFlow), Dr. Eva Sciacca, Dr. Salvatore Spinella and Maurizio Drocco. One of the HPC Advisory Council’s main activities is community and educational outreach and support. The University Award program is an outgrowth of this, and is intended to enhance research in the area of High-Performance Computing.

Twice a year, the HPC Advisory Council will select worthy proposals allowing winners to benefit from a range of the council’s resources and events, including the opportunity to present their final research results to a wider audience. Proposals for the Fall 2011 HPC Advisory Council University Award Program can be submitted today through Nov. 1, 2011. The selected proposal(s) will be determined by Nov. 14th and the winner(s) will be notified.

The HPC Advisory Council University Award winners will be provided with the following benefits:

  • Exclusive computation time on the HPC Advisory Council’s Compute Center
  • Invitation to present the research results at one of the HPC Advisory Council’s worldwide workshops, including sponsorship of travel expenses (according to the Council Award Program rules)
  • Publication of the research results on the HPC Advisory Council website and related publications
  • Publication of the research results and a demonstration, if applicable, within the HPC Advisory Council world-wide technology demonstration activities
