Bitstream to Demonstrate Advanced Mobile Browsing Technologies at CommunicAsia 2011

Bitstream to showcase BOLT Mobile Browser Indic version and preview BOLT Android beta for carriers

CommunicAsia2011

SINGAPORE & MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--()--Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) today announced it will be demonstrating the Indic version of its BOLT mobile browser and previewing its forthcoming BOLT Android version at CommunicAsia (www.communicasia.com) exhibition and conference, being held 21-24 June in Singapore. Carriers can arrange for a meeting and private demonstration by contacting the BOLT team at boltsales@bitstream.com.

The BOLT Android version, currently in private beta, leverages the powerful BOLT Cloud Computing architecture to provide a modern, visual Web experience, better network management and new revenue opportunities to carriers.

Bitstream will also showcase the Indic language version of its BOLT browser at CommunicAsia. The Indic language browser provides perfect rendering of complex Indic characters on web pages for the following Indic languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gurumukhi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam and Oriya.

Carriers who offer the mobile Internet on low to mid-tier mobile phones face several common issues, including slow and unreliable page load times, the inability to support video, and inaccurate page rendering. Often these capabilities not only drain device batteries but also use too much data, making them too slow and expensive for end users.

“BOLT offers carriers a solution that not only allows for perfect page rendering with a fully-featured browser no matter what type of phone is being used, but also provides significant bandwidth savings over the competition with unmatched data compression,” said Sampo Kaasila, vice president of research & development for Bitstream. “For example, twenty mobile devices browsing with BOLT use the same bandwidth as one device browsing with competing browsers. That’s an impressive bandwidth savings for carriers, but even more importantly the new use cases that BOLT enables, combined with BOLT’s cloud architecture with carrier billing integration, helps carriers increase data revenues.”

With the BOLT cloud, Bitstream can provide an easy way for consumers to control their data plans and data usage directly from BOLT, without needing to call customer service, use SMS or take any other additional steps. With BOLT’s ability to easily and directly integrate with a carrier’s existing billing system, the application enables carriers to sell trial or introductory data plans to end-users and then upsell them to full data plans from within the BOLT browser app.

“BOLT can be addictive to users who enjoy the perfect, lightning fast page rendering of the Internet as it was intended to be seen,” adds Ritu Varma, Bitstream director of product management. “The ability to quickly and easily upgrade data plans as usage increases means that end users can better control and manage their budgets, reducing the customer service strain on carriers.”

BOLT’s cloud also provides increased support for optimized video streaming, an important feature to end users and another differentiator for carriers who implement BOLT into their offerings. BOLT offers users the widest variety of streaming audio and video available in a mobile browser, supporting both Flash and HTML5 video. In addition to advanced video support, BOLT’s social networking integration capabilities with Facebook and Twitter is another attractive differentiator from other available browsing solutions on the market today.

BOLT has already been selected as the default browser by wireless operators who use BOLT's cloud computing architecture to drive data revenues, create new use cases for end users, and also to reduce infrastructure costs through industry leading, over-the-air 20:1 data compression. BOLT’s superior data compression offers the additional benefit of speedy performance on congested networks across a wide range of devices.
