Monroe County Medical Center Selects HMS for Full Suite of EHR Products

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Monroe County Medical Center has selected Healthcare Management Systems Inc. (HMS) to provide the facility with a full suite of integrated electronic health record (EHR) products. The 49-bed, acute-care hospital in Tompkinsville, Ky., is switching to HMS’ hospital information system because of HMS’ demonstrated commitment to customer support.

“We were looking for a company that would be responsive to our needs and work with us as a true partner,” said Paul McKiddy, director of information technology at Monroe County Medical Center. “We decided to go with HMS because of positive testimonials from its other customers, HMS’ commitment to timely, effective customer-support delivery and the company’s strategic direction—which aligns with what we want to achieve for integration and meaningful use.”

The Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE) is one of the first of its kind to launch and connect with in-state hospitals, and Monroe County Medical Center plans to link with it as soon as possible using HMS Connex. The HMS platform enables EHR integration with existing systems, submission of data to federal and state entities and exchange of clinical data across multiple healthcare enterprises.

The HMS hospital information system is implemented in nearly 700 community hospitals and specialty-care facilities across the United States and Puerto Rico. The entire spectrum of HMS’ EHR products for inpatient services, emergency departments and physician practices has been tested and certified to meet the meaningful use criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Our certified EHR products help facilities like Monroe streamline their workflow and exchange information among internal departments and with third parties like KHIE, so that patients can benefit from the improved efficiency,” said Tom Stephenson, president and chief executive officer of HMS. “We also continue to strengthen our support organization and are glad to see that another hospital has chosen us because of that commitment.”
