(LSE:CSR) today announced that its automotive-qualified location and connectivity hardware and software have been adopted by Renesas Electronics Corporation for use in its automotive infotainment reference platform. Renesas Electronics is relying on these CSR solutions to enable the reference platform to deliver best-in-class location and connectivity capabilities and to help automotive Tier-1 suppliers, OEMs and third-party software solution providers ease their development efforts and accelerate their time to market.

The Renesas Electronics automotive infotainment reference platform integrates several CSR hardware and software products:

The Renesas Electronics system-on-chip product incorporates ARM Cortex™ application processor technology introduced as the Renesas-Car, or “R-Car” series. The reference platform is designed for software development and “proof of concept” design, with two ARM Cortex-A9 cores, a total of 2500 MIPS at 533 MHz, an SGX 530 2D/3D graphics engine and a host of automotive peripherals, such as CAN, USB, I²C and SDIO port interfaces. The platform is based on the Linux Genivi OS, and demonstrates all the key features of a complete in-vehicle infotainment platform, such as a rich graphical user interface with support for Internet connectivity and advanced graphics demos, a media player, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, voice recognition, GPS with associated navigation and location-based applications and a full range of AM, FM and HD radios.

The GSD4e-9500 brings to the automotive industry a market-proven product that has been highly successful in the consumer and handset markets and that is now available for the first time as an AEC-Q100 qualified device. Together with the CSR8311 Bluetooth and CSR6000 standalone Wi-Fi connectivity devices, the GSD4e-9500 completes an auto-qualified location and connectivity triumvirate of high-performance platform solutions for the automotive market. Its HD voice capability not only greatly improves in-vehicle, hands-free voice quality, but also boosts the performance of the voice dialing feature found on most of today’s mobile phones. The CSR8311 also offers auto makers a complementary platform for their existing proprietary keyless entry technologies that opens the door to a growing number of interesting consumer applications on the horizon enabled by Bluetooth low energy technology, and addresses the growing rear seat entertainment market.

The CSR6000 is the world’s first fully automotive-qualified, standalone Wi-Fi solution, and offers the lowest risk and most cost-effective way to add Wi-Fi to existing automotive designs. The CSR6000 supports the IEEE 802.11b.g.n standards and offers Wi-Fi Client, Wi-Fi Access Point and Bluetooth v3.0+HS capabilities.
