SMSC Appoints Jeff VerHeul as New Engineering Chief

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--()--SMSC (NASDAQ: SMSC), a leading semiconductor company enabling content rich connectivity systems, today announced the appointment of Jeff VerHeul, previously Corporate Vice President of Platform Solutions Engineering at Advanced Micro Devices, as SMSC’s Senior Vice President of Engineering. Jeff will report to Christine King, President & Chief Executive Officer, and will be based in SMSC’s Austin, TX office. Mr. VerHeul will be responsible for leading all engineering capabilities, defining our technology road maps and driving a highly efficient global engineering organization.

Mr. VerHeul, an engineering veteran, has broad technical leadership skills, along with a wealth of experience in leading and managing large complex design activities at both the silicon and system level. He comes to SMSC from AMD, where he successfully directed the worldwide development of AMD’s 45nm CPUs, and more recently, AMD’s 40nm and 32nm industry leading Fusion APUs. Mr. VerHeul also spent 25 years with IBM in various executive positions and led the creation and profitable growth of IBM's Engineering and Technology Services business. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University and a MS in Management of Technology from the Sloan School at MIT.
