Media Tablets to Boost Enterprise Mobile Broadband Revenues to $36 Billion Worldwide by 2016, Says ABI Research

NEW YORK--()--In the latest update to its Enterprise Mobility Market Data, ABI Research says mobile broadband revenues from the enterprise segment for cellular connectivity of laptops, netbooks, and media tablets will reach $36 billion worldwide. Boosting enterprise mobile broadband revenues will be connections for the high growth media tablet segment.

Currently enterprise penetration of tablets is low; however relative to other big-screen portable computers, tablet mobile broadband attach rates are high. In recent survey data of US business customers, mobile broadband attach rates on media tablets were 33% higher than netbooks and twice as high as laptops.

A key component of enterprise tablet data plan adoption will be pricing. Enterprise practice director Dan Shey, comments: ”Favorable pricing and plan options have made it easy for early adopters in the sales, management and professional services segment to add cellular plans. Pricing will also be incredibly important as more field force personnel are mobilized.”

However, workers in other segments whose work is facility-based, such as healthcare staff, have less need for a mobile broadband plan. Shey expects mobile operators to maintain pricing flexibility in order to address segments that intermittently need cellular access.

North America and the Asia-Pacific region will garner the greatest share of mobile broadband revenues from media tablets. An important driver for North America will be 4G networks; Asia-Pacific growth will be driven by a dynamic business market and mobile device-savvy culture.
