Statement by Global Automakers’ President and CEO Michael J. Stanton Regarding Changes to the Motor Vehicle Fuel Economy Label

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Association of Global Automakers has long supported efforts to create one national fuel economy label that is easily understood by consumers to help them make informed vehicle purchases. A straightforward and meaningful label is especially important as new vehicles enter the marketplace and consumers need help understanding the fuel economy benefits that can come with purchasing plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and other advanced technology vehicles.

Our Association and our member companies have worked with the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and from what we understand from early reports, it appears they have addressed all of our main issues we raised in comments filed last November. Those comments highlighted the need for lead time and flexibility to allow manufacturers to implement the new label.
