Capella University Announces Online Master of Science in Homeland Security

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has announced a new Master of Science in Homeland Security. The online master’s degree is designed to develop leadership competencies specific to the field of homeland security, as well as the communication, technology, and critical analysis skills necessary to prepare for, prevent, and respond to homeland security issues and emergency events. Capella’s new program is one of few master’s degrees focused on this growing field. As of March 31, 2011, nearly 40,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), with 31 percent enrolled in Capella’s doctoral degree programs, and 47 percent enrolled in Capella’s master’s degree programs.

Dr. Kemp is also one of very few individuals in the U.S. with a PhD in Emergency Management, and also holds the prestigious Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credential.

Capella’s program, designed around educational standards for the field of homeland security, includes course work in homeland security preparedness, mitigation, and management; cross-functional and media communications; infrastructure, cyber, and border security; and threat analysis and resolution. It also features Capella’s cutting-edge crisis simulation, Riverbend City, which allows participants to step into various public service leadership roles, strengthening the collaboration skills important to management crisis situations. An integrated project at the end of the degree program provides students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a homeland security project of their choosing and demonstrate their leadership skills and competencies.
