Leyden Energy Unveils Next Generation Lithium-Ion Battery Line After Hitting Key Customer and Product Milestones

Company’s First Suite of Products Address Performance, Safety and Longevity Limitations of Other Products; Company Signs Major Customer and Receives CEC Grant

FREMONT, Calif.--()--Leyden Energy, Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced lithium-ion batteries for the consumer electronics, energy storage and electric vehicle markets, today launched its full suite of next-generation lithium-ion batteries after hitting key customer and product milestones. The company announced an initial contract with Dr. Battery, a Canadian-based supplier of replacement batteries for tablets, laptops and other consumer-electronic devices. The company also has received the full $2.96 million in grants from the California Energy Commission to produce ten electric vehicle (EV) batteries per month as part of a grant application submitted with an EV partner in 2010.

“We are very excited to partner with one of the leading energy storage companies in North America. As a company that is in tune with the demand of the battery market on both the consumer side and supplier side, we know that recently many manufacturers have struggled to find a cost-effective and durable battery that meets consumers’ demands of value of mobility, durability and long life,” said Joshua Huen, CEO of Dr. Battery. “Leyden Energy’s cutting edge technology is filling a clear market need, and this breakthrough technology will allow us to create a wide variety of product lines to empower numerous electronic devices that demand high performance and endurance.”

Leyden Energy’s lithium-ion products undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet UL, UN and RoHS safety standards and are backed by a three-year performance guarantee. The product suite launched today includes:

  • 18650 cylindrical cells for consumer electronics and custom-designed portable applications, pouch-style polymer cells for small consumer electronics, such as tablet computers and PCs.
  • High-power lithium-ion battery packs for EVs and renewable energy management systems.

“This is an exciting day as we officially unveil our commercial product line and the only lithium-ion pilot manufacturing and testing facility in the U.S. after hitting several major customer milestones,” said Aakar Patel, president and CEO of Leyden Energy. “Cost-effective, high-performance and long-lasting energy storage is the lynchpin to maximizing the return on investment and customer satisfaction of several key markets, including tablets, laptops, EVs and remote-grid storage. At Leyden Energy, we have taken our patented intellectual property and commercialized what we believe to be the battery industry’s premier product suite for tapping the full value of a number of different applications.”

Leyden Energy battery products are perfectly suited for consumer electronics applications due to their high energy density, high level of safety and excellent thermal properties. These same exceptional thermal and high energy density properties as well as production-proven power supplies also make Leyden Energy’s batteries well suited for use in EVs. Additionally, Leyden Energy’s batteries’ high durability are ideal for the harsh conditions present in solar and wind energy generation, making them well suited to grid and backup storage applications.
