Talent and Events Over Memorial Day Weekend Make the Grand Strand Perfect for a Family Getaway

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--An exciting month of events in May culminates on Memorial Day weekend with the 60^th Annual Sun Fun Festival Kick-off and parade featuring Grand Marshal Senator John McCain. This is all part of Myrtle Beach MayFest, a not to miss family-friendly festival with free military concerts and a performance by David Archuleta of American Idol.

Here are some of the exciting events Myrtle Beach MayFest has to offer:

• Military Concert Series (May 20 and May 27)
  • A free concert will be held May 20 & 27 in between 8^th and 9^th Avenues North. The 208^th US Army Reserve Band will perform May 20 at 7 p.m. and the 282^nd Army Band Jazz Combo and Navy Band 5 Star Edition will perform May 27 at 6 p.m.
  • During the May 27 performances, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham will conduct a veteran presentation at 6:50 p.m.
  • Additionally, on May 27, acclaimed country performer and veteran Craig Morgan will perform at 8:00 p.m.
• Memorial Day Weekend Parade and Festivities (May 28)
  • The 2011 Memorial Day Weekend parade, featuring Grand Marshal Senator John McCain, will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Ocean Boulevard at 27^th Avenue North in downtown Myrtle Beach and proceed to 9^th Avenue North. The parade will be televised live on WMBF News XTRA and on WMBFNews.com
  • American Idol Season 7 Runner-up David Archuleta will headline the 60^th Annual Sun Fun Festival Kick-off in a free, oceanfront concert on May 28 at 8 p.m.
  • From 1-6 p.m., enjoy meet and greets with Disney and Nickelodeon celebrities including Emily Osment, Noah and Ethan Munck, Ariana Grande, Jake T. Austin, Doug Brochu, Zendaya Coleman, and Matthew Timmons. For meet and greet times, visit www.myrtlebeachmayfest.com.
  • The Sun Fun Festival Kick-Off features performances by Zendaya Coleman from Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up!” at 5:50 p.m., Ariana Grande from Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” at 6 p.m. and Emily Osment, best known for her role on “Hannah Montana,” at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Memorial Day Weekend Sun Fun activities kick off a week of events, ending with the Sun Fun Festival celebration finale June 3-5. The finale features entertainment, water sports, food, and craft vendors, as well as the 1^st annual Sun Fun Myrtle Beach Convertible Car Show.
