eMusic Signs Deal with EMI Music, Brings More Music to Members

More Music from LCD Soundsystem, Lily Allen, Radiohead, Hot Chip and Many Others Now Available on eMusic.com

NEW YORK--()--Starting today, US members of the digital music service eMusic will now have access to more of their favorite artists and albums through a deal signed between eMusic and EMI Music, one of the world’s leading music companies.

“We are thrilled to further expand our music catalog and give members the ability to discover and own more music through our service”

eMusic US members who login to their account today will find more music from iconic artists like Brian Eno, Radiohead and the Beastie Boys, as well as popular alternative bands like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. The addition of EMI Music brings over 15,000 new albums from thousands of artists to eMusic.

Today’s catalog additions span a wide range of music genres, from alternative rock and classical to hip-hop and jazz. This deal is especially significant for eMusic’s jazz enthusiasts, as they will now have access to the legendary Blue Note Records catalog.

“We are thrilled to further expand our music catalog and give members the ability to discover and own more music through our service,” said Adam Klein, CEO and President of eMusic. “We recognize that we need to expand upon the music that we offer to better cater to the varied tastes of our membership base. In adding more music to our catalog, we will always honor our independent roots.”

“We’re excited to be able to bring eMusic members more of the music that they love. We look forward to working with eMusic and giving our artists another way to connect with their fans and to find new audiences,” said Mark Piibe, EMI Music’s Executive Vice President of Global Business Development.

Under the terms of the current deal, EMI Music’s expansive and rich catalogue of albums 12 months and older will be available on the US site starting today. eMusic’s highly regarded editorial team have mined the catalogue to provide members with music guides, contextualizing iconic albums and helping even the most knowledgeable music fans find hidden gems. In the coming months, eMusic hopes to begin adding new releases.

Exclusive editorial features currently on eMusic and its music blog, 17dots, include an album-by-album breakout of significant artists like Radiohead and Roxy Music. These features have been created to provide eMusic members with a way to learn more about their favorite artists.

The addition of EMI Music is key part in eMusic’s growth strategy. In addition to pursing new deals, the company is also developing new product features for music discovery, as well as features that will give members the ability to access all of their music no matter where they are. eMusic plans to rollout these new features over the next quarters, starting with an invitation-only beta period for current members.
