More than 100 elementary and middle school students from New York City and around the country will compete using the revolutionary DimensionU videogame software. In a test of speed and problem solving skills, students must solve and conquer fast-paced math problems and numerical obstacles over several stages in order to advance and win the ultimate prize -- $60,000 in scholarship funds.

Math just got fun! Yes, you heard right! Solving for x in the equation 5x-6=3x-8 is now actually entertaining, and if you are a child in grades 3-8, it just might add up to $60,000 in scholarship funds!

The U Games National Scholarship Tournament is a national video game competition, which is bringing together more than 100 students who secured a spot in the final competition after participating in one of 12 qualifying rounds that ran from November through April. Using the award-wining DimensionU Games for math, the tournament is hosted by game developer Tabula Digita in partnership with Intel and Dell. The tournament finals will be held Saturday, May 21 at Hunter College in New York City.

During the three-hour, energy-packed contest, student competitors will go head-to-head using math skills to advance through timed video games. The competition is broken into two divisions: the senior division, comprised of students in grades 6-8; and the junior division, made up of students in grades 3-5. To move ahead, and ultimately win the tournament, students will have to navigate through numerous mathematical obstacles, and compete with their fellow students, to score the most points.

“Games teach skills, and it’s really the new game in math instruction…here in New York and around the country,” said Ntiedo (NT) Etuk, chief executive officer and co-founder of Tabula Digita. “Future employers want analytical thinking, team building, multitasking and problem solving skills under pressure – our games help students hone these skills and have fun while learning it all!”
