Dell OEM Solutions Helps Customers Manage and Stabilize Product Lifecycles with New OEM XL Program

  • OEM XL Program reduces frequency of component upgrades, providing platform stability for customers
  • Customers can reduce the sustaining costs of their products by up to 50 percent
  • Enables Dell OEM customer Teradata Labs to focus on new product development, rather than spending time on managing product lifecycle
  • Helps Websense shorten time to market for its V-Series™ appliances to meet customer demand

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dell OEM Solutions today announced the OEM XL program designed to provide additional control and planning support for OEM customers with business exposure to rapid technology transitions and changes. The program helps those customers better manage the lifecycles of their products through stability of core components and longer platform transition periods, enabling them to lower recertification costs and avoid service-strategy updates that would be required to handle unexpected component changes.

“We developed the XL program in direct response to customer demands for more stable platforms requiring less change and recertification. This increased stability is a huge cost saver, especially in industries where there are considerable regulatory requirements such as healthcare”

The XL server and business client platforms currently offered under the program include Dell Precision T5500 desktop workstation, Dell Precision R5500 rack workstation and Dell PowerEdge R210, R210 II, R610 and R710 rack servers. In addition, Dell offers the OptiPlex XE, a long-life industrial PC that comes with a three-year purchase window plus five-year optional warranty, component-level stability to reduce requalification and tolerance for hot, dusty and wet environments.

Stability & Longevity of XL Products

The XL program guarantees customers platform stability with fewer component changes during the life of their product. The base platform of the product has a locked bill of materials so customers do not have to worry about critical components changing that impact software image compatibility including the CPU, chipset, motherboard and graphics cards. Customers are given a six-month roadmap and outlook for any pending changes of non-core components such as BIOS, firmware and hard drive capacities. Only non-critical components that do not impact the solution, like fans, power supplies, and chassis, may change during the life of the product.

In addition to a stable platform, the XL program provides customers a longer transition period between old and new platforms. Every XL platform is available for purchase for an additional 12 months after the launch of the replacement product. This provides Dell OEM customers 12 months to develop, test and launch the product before transitioning off of their old platform.

Global Support for XL Platforms

Dell incorporates comprehensive global support of up to five years into every XL platform. Dell OEM Solutions customers have access to 24x7 call centers, same or next business day parts delivery, Dell Online Self Dispatch for parts, 500 parts depots and 5 global command centers¹.

In addition, Dell has exclusively tailored Dell ProSupport for OEM customers, which delivers flexible support services including a 90 day extension for warehousing and inventory management and optional customized and extended plans.

Quotes

“With the rapid rate of technology refresh in the server industry, it can be difficult to maintain a product portfolio, while focusing on new product development,” said Scott Gnau, chief development officer, Teradata Corporation. “The Dell XL program enables Teradata to adeptly manage its server refresh program in a way that is highly sustainable for our customers and protects their IT investments.”

“The Dell OEM XL program helps make it even easier for our worldwide customer base to take advantage of our robust V-Series™ appliance, which is a key delivery channel for our flagship Websense® TRITON™ solution,” said David Meizlik, director of product and marketing communications for Websense. “Our time to market is faster, enabling thousands of companies to have unified Web security, email security, and data loss prevention on one integrated Websense V-Series appliance.”

“We developed the XL program in direct response to customer demands for more stable platforms requiring less change and recertification. This increased stability is a huge cost saver, especially in industries where there are considerable regulatory requirements such as healthcare,” said Sameer Garde, vice president and general manager of Dell OEM Solutions. “FDA recertification each time there are hardware changes can run $100K plus per change. By offering longer lifecycles, we can decrease customer costs by as much as 50 percent.”
