Veteran Patent Litigator Paul J. Hayes Establishes IP Litigation Boutique Hayes, Bostock and Cronin, LLC

BOSTON & ANDOVER, Mass.--()--Leveraging over 30-years of patent litigation experience, Paul J. Hayes, along with Dean G. Bostock, Paul J. Cronin, Gene A. Feher, James Hall and Justin Hayes have formed the law firm of Hayes, Bostock and Cronin, LLC. The firm, with offices in Boston and Andover, will specialize in patent, trademark and copyright litigation, with a particular emphasis in patent litigation. Also joining the firm will be associate Jacob Schneider.

“As our patent litigation practice grew over the last ten years at Mintz Levin, we were increasingly presented with client conflicts,” said Mr. Hayes. “Establishing this firm will allow us to continue to grow our practice, provide the same high level of service to clients and customize our legal fees, as necessary, to meet the needs of our clients.”

Mssrs. Hayes, Bostock, Cronin and Feher were most recently partners at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., practicing in the firm’s Intellectual Property Section. Mr. Hall and Mr. Schneider were associates at the firm. Mr. Justin Hayes was a trial attorney for the past eight years at the Public Defenders office in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Mintz Levin has a 90-person intellectual property section with patent prosecutors and litigators in Boston, New York, Washington, San Diego and London and continues to represent companies practicing in the high technology, materials, life science and medical device fields, in particular.

Mr. Hayes has successfully tried numerous patent and trademark cases in federal courts throughout the United States and in various arbitration tribunals in this country and in Europe. In May 2000, he obtained the ninth largest verdict in patent law history ($55.2 million), which was affirmed by the Federal Circuit in 2001. In April 2009, Mr. Hayes obtained the fifth largest verdict in patent law history ($388 million) in a suit against Microsoft for its infringement of a patent for an anti-piracy software registration system belonging to Uniloc. In January of this year, a unanimous ruling in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reversed a September 2009 ruling by the District of Rhode Island, which had vacated an April 2009 infringement verdict for Uniloc.

Mr. Bostock, who also represents Uniloc, has for twenty years successfully litigated cases over a wide range of technologies and industries, including mechanics, electronics, computer hardware and software, digital imaging and printing, electronic and electrical connectors, network and telecommunications devices, materials, consumer products, and medical devices, copyrights in printed materials and software, and trademarks. He has handled all phases of litigation, through trials and appeals.

Mr. Cronin, who was part of the Uniloc trial team, concentrates his practice in the area of patent infringement litigation. He also litigates trademark, trade secret, and copyright cases, handles antitrust issues arising from infringement actions, and counsels clients with respect to the licensing and procurement of intellectual property rights. Over the past twelve years, Mr. Cronin has appeared in numerous federal courts, as well as Superior Courts, within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Feher has for twenty years litigated intellectual property cases in matters involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, and/or trade secrets. He has successfully litigated cases over a wide range of technologies and industries, including mechanics, electronics, computer hardware and software, digital imaging and printing, electronic and electrical connectors, network and telecommunications devices, sonar, optics, radar, materials, consumer products, and medical devices. He has handled all phases of litigation, through trials and appeals.

Mr. Hall has over the past eight years litigated patent cases in the areas of computer science. He was instrumental in the $388 million victory over Microsoft in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.

Mr. Justin Hayes has over the past eight years tried countless jury trials throughout the Courts of New Hampshire.
