Samsung’s 4Gb Green DDR3 Memory Enables First 2TB Capacity on x86 4-socket HP Blade Server

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that its 4Gb DDR3 DRAM memory has been selected for use in two new HP ProLiant G7 servers, the world’s first x86 four-socket blade with 2TBs of memory capacity and the first x86 two-socket blade server with 1TB of memory capacity. Utilizing HP-selected lower power consumption, higher performance memory with Samsung Green DDR3 technology, as well as the Intel® Xeon® processor E7 family, the new HP DL580 G7, BL680c G7, and BL620c G7 servers have been designed to provide exceptional energy efficiency and outstanding performance in virtualized IT environments.

Data center power and cooling issues are critical to IT managers chartered with extending operational capacities and optimizing performance, while reducing power consumption.

Consumes 33 percent less energy than a 1.5V 2Gb-based DDR3 memory chip – the most widely used in the industry today – the new Samsung Green memory makes use of advanced 40nm-class* 1.35V 4Gb-based DRAM technology.

HP recently reached two key milestones with its server technology: the BL680c G7 is the world’s first x86 4-socket blade server with 2TB (terabyte) of memory and the BL620c G7 is now the world’s first x86 2-socket blade server with 1TB of memory.

Samsung 4Gb-based 40nm-class Green DDR3 operates at 1066 Mbps, and is available in 16GB dual-rank and 32GB quad rank RDIMMs. At 533MHz, the 32GB quad rank registered DIMM provides up to 33 percent faster performance while doubling the maximum memory capacity, compared to the previous generation 16GB quad rank RDIMM running at a speed of 400MHz.

High-end enterprise platform performance is significantly enhanced with the Intel® Xeon® processor E7 family, which enables use of a 1.35V DDR3 memory interface. As a result, customers can take full advantage of Samsung’s low power Green Memory technology, populating their systems with 4Gb based 32GB RDIMM’s running at 1066Mbps. Fully loading a system with 64 such modules delivers the maximum of two terabytes of memory.
