Mykonos Software Partners with Rochester Institute of Technology to Teach Cyber-Security

RIT to Educate Students on Mykonos’ Innovative Web Security Methodology to Prepare Grads for Workforce, Deploys Mykonos Security Appliance to Protect Web Apps

BURLINGAME, Calif. & ROCHESTER, N.Y.--()--Mykonos Software Inc., the creator of the first next-generation Web application firewall that secures Websites and Web applications against hackers, fraud and theft, today announced a cyber-security partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to add proactive cyber-security training to the school’s curriculum.

RIT, a leading technological university with a strong focus on computer science, is at the forefront of teaching real-life cyber security principles to students studying in the computer science department. This partnership expands the breadth of skills taught by adding the proactive security techniques used by Mykonos Software to the syllabus. In addition, RIT will use the Mykonos Security Appliance to protect its own Web applications from hackers and will use the data to develop research and further expertise in cyber security.

“We endeavor to prepare students with the practical skills they need in the workplace and cyber security is a very real and important part of organizations in both private and public sectors today,” said Dr. Bo Yuan, director of the Center for the Advancement of Research and Education in Information Assurance (CARE-IA) at Rochester Institute of Technology. “Mykonos Software brings a very unique, proactive solution to the problem of hackers who attack Web applications, and RIT students will study these innovative and the state-of-art security practices and technologies to protect organizations from data theft and fraud.”

David Koretz, president and CEO of Mykonos Software, and a RIT board member, credits Rochester Institute of Technology for making cyber-security a key component of its syllabus for computer science students. “Every day we hear about cyber incidents and the importance of good security practices but very few colleges and universities require graduates to complete cyber-security classes to graduate,” Koretz said. “We are delighted to be a small part of helping RIT educate tomorrow’s IT security professionals on some of these latest techniques.”

The Mykonos Security Appliance is the innovator in a brand new product category of proactive defense solutions. Unlike traditional security solutions that rely on passive techniques such as signatures or simply record the threat to a log file to be discovered days later, the Mykonos Security Appliance traps the attacker in real-time, tags their computer, then profiles them to understand their threat level, and then deploys real-time counter-measures to protect the Website.

Mykonos Software was named by Gartner as a ‘Cool Vendor’ in Application Security in 2010 and won the SC Magazine award for “Innovative Security Company” at SC World Congress 2010.

About Mykonos Software

Mykonos is the smartest way to secure Websites and Web applications against hackers, fraud and theft. Its next generation Web application firewall detects, tags, tracks and stops hackers in real-time. Unlike legacy signature-based approaches, Mykonos is the first technology that inserts thousands of detection points to proactively identify attackers before they do damage – without any false positives. Mykonos goes beyond the IP address to track the individual attacker, profile their behavior and deploy counter measures. With the Mykonos Security Appliance, administrators are liberated from writing rules, analyzing massive log files or monitoring another console. Mykonos neutralizes threats as they occur, preventing the loss of data and saving companies millions of dollars from fraud or lost revenue.
