Reppler Helps Keep the Social Reputations of the Facebook Generation Clean and Safe

New Service Addresses Three Pillars that can Affect a Person’s Social Reputation – Content, Privacy and Security

College & University Pressroom

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Reppler today announced the launch of a new social media monitoring service that helps keep an individual's social reputation clean and safe. An individual's social reputation is a reflection of how a person is perceived in social networking circles and is becoming critical in job searches, career advancement, and college admissions. Reppler uniquely addresses three critical pillars that can affect a person's social reputation - content, privacy, and security. The initial version of Reppler is free and supports the monitoring of Facebook profiles. To begin monitoring your social reputation, go to www.reppler.com

“It’s becoming increasingly common for people to ‘friend’ their co-workers or bosses on Facebook”

“A person’s social reputation is becoming increasingly important as employers and admissions officers tap into services like Facebook to screen their applicants. Protecting one’s social reputation is not easy, especially as the lines blur between a person’s social and professional networks,” said Vlad Gorelik, founder of Reppler. “With Reppler, we are providing the Facebook generation a complete solution to keep their social reputation clean and safe.”

Social Reputation Matters

In January 2010, Microsoft commissioned a study from Cross-Tab that found 7 out of 10 employers searched the Internet for information about prospective employees during the hiring process. Companies said they routinely rejected candidates over concerns about the person's lifestyle and choices, inappropriate comments, photos, videos and status updates. Increasingly, more employers and college admissions officials screen an applicant's social networking profiles – like in Facebook – for red flags as they evaluate an applicant.

“It’s becoming increasingly common for people to ‘friend’ their co-workers or bosses on Facebook,” said Rhonda Wheatley, a job recruiter and career coach in the Silicon Valley. “Unfortunately, they often forget to check content that can compromise their reputation and hinder their career or educational opportunities. In addition to using common sense, I would highly recommend a social media monitoring service, like Reppler, to maintain a clean reputation.”

What Reppler Does

Reppler helps a person keep their social reputation clean and safe by continuously monitoring three key areas within their social networking profiles:

  • Content - Reppler flags any content in an individual’s social networking profile that might be considered inappropriate. In addition, it analyzes a person’s content to give them a feel for how others might perceive them. For example, Reppler tells a user the tone of the language they use, whether it is positive, negative or neutral.
  • Privacy – Reppler alerts a user of any publicly-available personal information they have that should be made private, to prevent hackers from getting into their accounts.
  • Security – Reppler tells users of any malicious links they have in their social networking profiles that could result in malware and phishing scams.

The initial version of Reppler is a free online service that supports the monitoring of a user’s Facebook profile. In the future, the service will support other social networking environments, like LinkedIn and Twitter.
