PatientKeeper Appoints Chris Stakutis as Vice President of Engineering

Veteran enterprise software development leader and innovator to lead PatientKeeper’s healthcare technology initiatives in CPOE, HIE, mobility, physician documentation and charge capture

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of physician health information systems, today announced that it has appointed Chris Stakutis, an accomplished software development leader and innovator with over 25 years of experience in the information technology industry, as its vice president of engineering.

“He knows how to grow and run a software development organization and he will drive our company’s technology direction, so we can provide physicians with ever more powerful and flexible workflow solutions. Chris will ensure that we’re building tools and technology in keeping with that mission.”

Stakutis, who has directed software development initiatives for companies ranging from IBM and Computer Associates to venture-backed start-ups, will be responsible for leading PatientKeeper’s development and test organization, and will oversee the company’s product architecture and technology. Stakutis’s organization currently employs about 80 engineers, a figure that is expected to continue to grow over the next several years.

“PatientKeeper isn’t a start-up anymore,” Stakutis said. “It’s a mid-sized company on a path to becoming a much bigger company. One of my goals is to make PatientKeeper a sought-after destination for developers.

“PatientKeeper’s software solutions are at the forefront of new technology development in the rapidly growing healthcare information technology sector,” Stakutis added. “Our applications are in high demand among physicians and healthcare providers, since the company’s software is designed for physician use in the areas of computerized physician order entry (CPOE), health information exchange (HIE), mobile healthcare solutions, physician documentation and electronic charge capture. With our growth, we need to continue adding structure and process to the engineering organization, while at the same time keeping things fun and light to appeal to the ‘renegade’ engineer mindset.”

Stakutis comes to PatientKeeper from Computer Associates, where he served as vice president of emerging technology. In that role, he was focused on evaluating new and pervasive devices that are providing volumes of information and connections, particularly in the healthcare arena.

Prior to Computer Associates, Stakutis was chief technology officer of IBM/Tivoli's Advanced File System market initiative, which focused on bringing real-time file system management capabilities across the enterprise. Previously he was the founder and CTO of SANergy, which was sold to IBM in 2000.

Stakutis also has an extensive background in real-time operating systems and process controls. At Mercury Computers, he was one of the lead architects for the massively parallel operating system used today by high-end defense and imaging applications. Prior to that, Stakutis was the lead architect at Precision Robots, developing applications to operate a chorus of robots in a wafer-handling environment. Additionally, he worked for many years at MIT/Lincoln Labs, which gave him a broader understanding of the science of engineering coupled with the value of commercialization.

“Chris Stakutis has a passion for technology and is a proven leader,” PatientKeeper CEO Paul Brient said. “He knows how to grow and run a software development organization and he will drive our company’s technology direction, so we can provide physicians with ever more powerful and flexible workflow solutions. Chris will ensure that we’re building tools and technology in keeping with that mission.”

Stakutis holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a MBA from Babson College. He has written two books and holds 20 patents.
