LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Korean manufacturer Humax and Intertrust Technologies Corporation today announced that Humax has licensed Intertrust’s Marlin Client SDK for its development of digital Set Top Boxes for YouView in the United Kingdom (UK).
Humax is one of the largest manufacturers of Internet and digital television Set Top Boxes for network carriers, broadcasters and service providers around the world.
Intertrust is one of the five founding companies of the Marlin Digital Rights Management (DRM) standard and the leading provider of technology solutions for Marlin. Earlier this month, Intertrust announced a partnership with Italian TV services leader Tivù to build a trust and certificate management system using Marlin DRM for the Italian market.
“The market for IPTV services in the UK is growing rapidly and Marlin’s superior features and open standards orientation will allow Humax to develop feature-rich Set Top Boxes to meet demand for exciting new Internet-connected TV services like YouView,” said Graham North, commercial director of Humax. “Using Intertrust’s tested and compliant Marlin SDKs we will be able to roll out Marlin-based devices for YouView quickly and efficiently.”

Marlin is the first domain-based DRM that puts the consumer at the center of the entertainment experience. In 2010, YouView, a new subscription-free internet-connected TV service for the UK, confirmed that it will support Marlin as the required DRM solution. Marlin-based services and devices can also be found in the Japanese national Internet TV services AcTVila and Hikari, and soon in Italy via a partnership between Intertrust and Italian national TV services provider Tivù.
