New York Life Launches New Sales Recruiting Web Site as It Seeks to Hire More Than 3,500 Agents in 2011

Offices Across the Country Continue Recruiting Momentum To Meet Increasing Demand for Life Insurance

NEW YORK--()--New York Life Insurance Company has launched a new career Web site for jobseekers that provides easy access to information about the benefits of a career in life insurance and financial services for individuals at all stages of their professional development, as well as opportunities in management. The Web site, www.newyorklife.com/careers, is part of New York Life’s efforts to recruit over 3,500 new agents in 2011.

“With more than 40 percent of American households reporting they need more life insurance* – the highest level ever reported – the demand for professional agents in local communities across the country has never been greater. Through real-life stories on this Web site, jobseekers will hear from New York Life’s agents and field managers about the benefits of a career with New York Life,” said Mark Pfaff, executive vice president in charge of U.S. Life Insurance and Agency, New York Life. “A career as an agent offers benefits that are diminishing or nonexistent in many other industries – stability, flexibility, significant income potential, health benefits, residual compensation, and a chance to build a financial services business. And it is a career that allows you to help families and businesses achieve financial security by making a significant impact on their lives, the community and even on future generations. Now more than ever, jobseekers recognize that representing a company with unsurpassed financial strength, a remarkable history, and outstanding training will be key to their success.”

In 2010, New York Life hired more than 3,300 new recruits, with solid growth in two areas of particular focus: agents who plan to work in specific ethnic communities, which represented over 40 percent of appointments; and recent college graduates, of which new hires increased by 24 percent over 2009. In addition, new hires of field managers increased by 12 percent. Since 2005, the number of New York Life agents has grown at a 16% compound annual rate to more than 11,800 licensed agents currently.

“Our recruiting goal for 2011 is to hire more than 3,500 agents, with continued focus on young professionals, ethnic communities, and recent college graduates. We are also making a special effort to hire more women agents,” added Mr. Pfaff. “The Web site, along with New York Life’s presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube, helps today’s jobseekers learn more about New York Life and make an informed decision about joining our company.”

In addition to the video profiles of agents and managers discussing their work experiences and why New York Life was the right choice for them, the Web site offers visitors information about the company, career options, benefits, and training. There is also a brief questionnaire to help visitors assess their interest in a potential sales career.
