Adura Technologies Names Mark Golan New CEO

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Adura® Technologies, a leading provider of wireless lighting controls and energy management systems, today announced that Mark Golan has been named its new Chief Executive Officer.

Golan, a leading corporate real estate executive and smart building innovator, was most recently Vice President and General Manager at Johnson Controls, Inc. where he ran the Global Workplace Solutions Business Unit for the Americas region. Previously he was a Vice President at Cisco Systems where he had global responsibility for all aspects of Cisco’s 17 million square foot real estate portfolio. He was also a VP within Cisco’s Internet Business Solutions Group responsible for the Connected Real Estate practice. Golan has served as Chairman of CoreNet Global, the world’s leading association for corporate real estate professionals, service providers and economic developers.

Golan replaces Andy Wheeler, who had been acting CEO and CTO. Wheeler will continue as CTO. He had temporarily taken over the CEO assignment from Jack Bolick, who retired last year for personal reasons. Bolick remains a member of the Adura board and is still active in the company.

”Smart buildings are a key step in the larger effort to rein in energy costs and reduce electricity consumption,” said Adura board member Robb McLarty of NGEN Partners. “Having someone with Mark’s experience in the CEO role will allow Adura to expand aggressively and bring its award-winning solutions to building owners and managers everywhere.”

“I’m excited to be joining a company that has such a great combination of leading-edge technology, skilled management and a strategy for helping our customers save money and improve building performance,” Golan said. “The wireless mesh network at the heart of Adura’s system provides the potential to control not only lighting and other building systems, but also to create valuable services for the building’s occupants.”

The market for lighting controls alone is huge: in the U.S., less than two percent of the 80 billion square feet of existing commercial real estate takes advantage of distributed lighting controls to save energy. Lighting accounts for about 30 percent of a typical building’s energy use and costs users $30 billion annually.

Adura’s wireless management platform can save users up to 50 percent on lighting. It also relieves strain on the electrical grid during periods of high use – a key goal of Smart Grid implementation. Adura’s wireless system can be installed at a fraction of the cost of conventional retrofits without disrupting business operations.

Adura was founded in 2005 and is backed by more than $17 million in funding from Claremont Creek Ventures, VantagePoint Venture Partners and NGEN Partners. The company recently reported a four-fold increase in revenue and moved to larger facilities to accommodate additional growth this year. The technology was developed based on research done at the University of California at Berkeley in the Center for the Built Environment.
