LOS ANGELES--()--The Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) March 6-10. Touted as the largest global conference and expo for optical communication networking professionals, the five-day event will result in a total of 10,600 room nights and a citywide economic impact of $8.8 million.
“This event allows us to showcase the attributes and amenities of our hotel partners to a large and influential audience,’’ said Liberman. “Delegates will enjoy some of the newly built properties as well as the more established hotels that have undergone recent renovations and multi-million dollar upgrades.”
OFC/NFOEC, which last convened in Los Angeles in 2004, has already committed to return to LA in 2012. The event, which originated in 1975, is expected to attract more than 10,000 delegates from across the globe who will arrive to discuss and exchange ideas about new trends and innovations taking place within the industry.
“This conference attracts some of the most respected people in the field of optics, and we’re extremely proud to be the host city for this event,” said Mark Liberman, president and CEO of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Los Angeles will have the opportunity to serve again as host city when the conference returns in 2012 for a second consecutive year. I think such a commitment by conference organizers is a testament to our great city.”
While the LACC will be the primary location for the conference, a reception will take place at Lucky Strike Lanes at L.A. LIVE. Attendees will be housed at several Downtown LA hotels during the five-day event including Hotel Figueroa, Hilton Checkers, JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE, Kawada Hotel, Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens, LUXE City Center, Marriott Downtown Los Angeles, Miyako Hotel Los Angeles, O Hotel, Omni Los Angeles Hotel, The Standard Downtown Los Angeles, Ritz Milner Hotel, Sheraton Los Angeles, Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, and the Wilshire Grand.
“This event allows us to showcase the attributes and amenities of our hotel partners to a large and influential audience,’’ said Liberman. “Delegates will enjoy some of the newly built properties as well as the more established hotels that have undergone recent renovations and multi-million dollar upgrades.”
Those seeking employment in the optics field can attend the Job Fair March 8 and 9 from 10am to 5pm. During last year’s conference, 53 employers and more than 400 job seekers from all areas of optical communications were able to connect as a result of this pivotal conference component through online posts, alerts, and in-person interviews conducted onsite.
“The Los Angeles Convention Center is pleased to have the opportunity to experience the OFC/NFOEC’s event growth in Los Angeles. We are confident that our venue will provide the world’s leading optical communications event with unparalleled support and excellent customer service,’’ said Pouria Abbassi, general manager and CEO of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
