Baylor Medical Center at Frisco Chooses PatientKeeper CPOE to Provide Physicians with a Superior User Experience and Achieve Sustained Meaningful Use

Hospital in growing Dallas suburb purchases PatientKeeper CPOE, physician documentation software, physician portal and mobile solutions to streamline physician workflow, drive adoption

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of physician health information systems (HIS), today announced that Baylor Medical Center at Frisco (Baylor Frisco), an acute care hospital in a fast-growing suburb north of Dallas, Texas, purchased PatientKeeper’s clinical and documentation software products, including PatientKeeper CPOE™ and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™, to streamline physician workflow and achieve ARRA-HITECH Meaningful Use standards in 2011 and beyond.

PatientKeeper’s software will complement and integrate with the hospital’s existing MEDITECH system. Baylor Frisco has purchased MEDITECH PCM but plans to implement PatientKeeper CPOE to provide physicians with a superior user experience.

PatientKeeper CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) enables hospitals to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy a physician-centric order entry system as an overlay to their current HIS without replacing existing IT infrastructure. It allows physicians to perform routine daily activities, such as ordering labs and medications, within a system that connects all of the appropriate departments at the hospital. The application is designed to support established physician workflow, which saves physicians time and spurs adoption.

Baylor Frisco plans to deploy PatientKeeper CPOE on both desktop and mobile devices to give physicians maximum flexibility in their ordering workflow. The hospital is also implementing the PatientKeeper Physician Portal™, to provide a comprehensive view of clinical data from any web browser; PatientKeeper Mobile Clinical Results™, which offers physicians “anytime, anywhere” access to patient information via smartphones, tablets and other handheld devices; and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™, which automates physician documentation, a likely requirement for Stage 2 Meaningful Use certification.

Baylor Frisco’s leaders were seeking a better and more comprehensive physician-oriented health information system that will enable a better physician experience than their current system delivers. Baylor Frisco is primarily a physician owned facility and also has more than 300 affiliated physicians that admit patients to the hospital.

Early demonstrations of PatientKeeper’s product suite were very well received by a core group of Baylor Frisco physicians, who were impressed with how PatientKeeper enhanced physician workflow more than anything else they had seen. In addition, Baylor Frisco’s senior management liked that physicians also could access data with an iPad and other mobile devices.

Paul Brient, president and CEO of PatientKeeper, said that the company is pleased to partner with Baylor Frisco. “Baylor Medical Center at Frisco is a leading medical facility that clearly values the benefits that physician-centric workflow can provide. We look forward to helping Baylor Frisco advance its physicians’ effectiveness and satisfaction.”
