Dr. Jeremy Nobel Appointed Medical Director for Northeast Business Group on Health

Nationally renowned expert in health care management, delivery and technology joins effort to improve quality and value for region’s employers

NEW YORK--()--The Northeast Business Group on Health (NEBGH) today announced that Jeremy Nobel, MD, MPH, has been appointed Medical Director, a position that guides the clinical and innovation oriented aspects of NEBGH’s initiatives to make health care delivery more affordable and effective for the region’s businesses and employees.

“Dr. Nobel brings to NEBGH tremendous knowledge and experience gained by decades of work with purchasers, payers and providers,” said Laurel Pickering, NEBGH Executive Director. “His real-world experience and background as a physician, researcher and innovator will help us develop new ways to improve the quality of care and help employers in the Northeast get more for their health care dollar.”

Previously a senior medical advisor to NEBGH, Nobel’s new position will allow him to become even more involved in the type of research, analysis and leading-edge solution development that has defined his 20-year career. He is one of the nation’s foremost experts in the use of technology to coordinate health care delivery, support optimal practice patterns and align incentives with outcomes. He was at the ground floor of the research that helped launch the Electronic Health Record movement of the early ‘90s.

Since that time, he has worked with a variety of organizations, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Aetna, J&J, Mercer, Chrysler, GM, Safeway, Sanofi-Aventis, Pfizer, GSK, Verizon, CAREMARK, IBM, Medtronic and McKesson. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Care Continuum Alliance, formerly known as the Disease Management Association of America and is an adjunct faculty member of the Harvard School of Public Health, where he teaches and conducts research on health policy and management.

Nobel is a board-certified in both Internal and Preventive Medicine with master’s degrees in epidemiology and health policy from the Harvard School of Public Health. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University, received his medical education at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue working with NEBGH and its members who face challenges related to the costs and administration of health care,” Nobel said. “We will keep striving to find innovative approaches that improve the quality and affordability of health care in the region and nationwide.”

“Over the past two decades, NEBGH has been a powerful force for accountability and change in employee health care in the region,” said Mary Bradley, NEBGH Board Chair and Director of Health Care Planning at Pitney Bowes. “With Dr. Nobel’s expertise, energy and insights, I know we will make even greater strides in helping businesses achieve even greater quality and value in the coming years.”
