Madison Memorial Hospital Chooses PatientKeeper CPOE to Drive Meaningful Use and ARRA-HITECH Compliance

Community hospital in Idaho purchases PatientKeeper software suite to streamline physician workflow and accelerate physician adoption of critical information technology

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of physician health information systems (HIS), today announced that Madison Memorial Hospital, a community hospital with 70 active affiliated physicians in Rexburg, Idaho, purchased PatientKeeper’s clinical and documentation software products, including PatientKeeper CPOE™ and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™ to streamline physician workflow and achieve ARRA-HITECH Meaningful Use standards in 2011 and beyond.

“We look forward to applying for Meaningful Use certification later this year using a best-of-breed approach leveraging PatientKeeper’s certified EHR module in combination with our MEDITECH HIS. Most importantly, we’re confident that patients will benefit from improved care and doctors will become more efficient.”

PatientKeeper CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) enables hospitals to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy a physician-centric order entry system as an overlay to their current HIS without replacing existing IT infrastructure. It allows physicians to perform routine daily activities, such as ordering labs and medications, within a system that connects all of the appropriate departments at the hospital. The application is designed to support established physician workflow, which saves physicians time and spurs adoption.

Madison Memorial plans to deploy PatientKeeper CPOE on both desktop and mobile devices to give physicians maximum flexibility in their ordering workflow. The hospital also will implement PatientKeeper Physician Portal™, which provides a comprehensive view of clinical data from any web browser; PatientKeeper Mobile Clinical Results™, which offers physicians “anytime, anywhere” access to patient information via smartphones, tablets and other handheld devices; and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™, which automates physician documentation, a likely requirement for Stage 2 Meaningful Use certification.

In selecting PatientKeeper, Madison Memorial chose a platform and software tools with a strong track record of physician adoption. “PatientKeeper offered the first CPOE solution we’ve seen that is truly designed for physician workflow,” said Dr. Clay Prince, chief of staff at Madison Memorial. “Physician interest in PatientKeeper was so strong, it actually drove our hospital administration’s attention.”

Dr. Prince applauded PatientKeeper for conducting on-site technology assessments with physicians. “PatientKeeper’s system will capture their workflow and let them do everything they need to do from anywhere, without having to log in to multiple systems,” said Dr. Prince. “Physicians kept stressing how this truly matched how they worked.”

Madison Memorial CEO David Rowe said there is significant value with PatientKeeper’s solution. “We’re very pleased with our investment in PatientKeeper and know that it will pay high dividends in the near term,” said Rowe. “We look forward to applying for Meaningful Use certification later this year using a best-of-breed approach leveraging PatientKeeper’s certified EHR module in combination with our MEDITECH HIS. Most importantly, we’re confident that patients will benefit from improved care and doctors will become more efficient.”

Paul Brient, president and CEO of PatientKeeper, said he is pleased to be able to support Madison Memorial in its physician automation initiatives. “We recognize that Madison Memorial has a strong desire to achieve Meaningful Use in 2011, and PatientKeeper will help the institution reach those goals,” said Brient. “Our CPOE, documentation and other solutions will work seamlessly with Madison’s existing systems and give physicians the tools they need to be successful.”
