REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Kabam™, a leading developer of massively multiplayer social games (MMSGs), today announced it has hired noted digital and social media executive Kent Wakeford, co-founder and President of AdSafe Media, as Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and General Counsel. Kabam, which has aggressively grown to over 250 employees in the past year while adding new studios in San Francisco and Beijing, continues to hire top-tier talent to drive further growth while building on its successful game franchises. Kabam game titles include Kingdoms of Camelot®, which was voted IGN Reader’s Choice Facebook Game of 2010, Glory of Rome™ and Dragons of Atlantis™.

“Bringing an executive as experienced and accomplished as Kent strengthens our already deep executive team,” said Kabam CEO Kevin Chou. “His track record in leading companies, building corporate partnerships, and managing complex business and legal relationships is a perfect addition for Kabam as we grow our company through acquisitions and further our relationships with platform and distributor partners.”

Wakeford will lead Corporate and Business Development relationships and operations, including overseeing relationships with platform and distribution partners, acquisition opportunities, and relationships with the financial community. As General Counsel, his responsibilities will include oversight of all the company’s legal matters, including intellectual property and business relationship contracts, while providing legal counsel on a range of business issues.

Wakeford brings significant executive, corporate development and legal experience to Kabam, including over 12 years of leadership experience in digital and social media. Before joining Kabam, for whom he served as an advisor in the company’s early development, Wakeford was co-founder and President of AdSafe Media, the industry leader in online brand protection. Prior to founding AdSafe, he served as a senior executive at Clearspring Technologies, helping to grow the company to the largest social content sharing platform. He also spent over five years at AOL as a Vice President facilitating relationships with more than 250 brand marketers across AOL web properties as well as integrated marketing partnerships across Time Inc., Turner, and Warner Bros. with revenue in excess of $1.25 billion.

Wakeford represented AOL on the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) task force to publish the AAAA's industry standard terms and conditions, and currently participates in the IAB Networks & Exchanges Committee. Wakeford began his career as an attorney at O’Melveny & Myers representing media and entertainment companies. A graduate of UCLA, he received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School, where he was recipient of the Norma Zarsky Memorial Award for excellence in the field of entertainment law and Gerald G. and Sally D. Kelly Award for scholarship.

“There’s been a lot written about the explosive growth of social games, but Kabam has a truly unique approach to this growing market,” Wakeford said. “The company’s rapid rate of growth behind its strategy to focus on creating massively multiplayer social games on social networks puts them in the leadership position in this emerging segment. I am very excited to be joining the outstanding executive team that has built the company to this point and contribute to the company’s accelerated growth.”
