SlipNOT® Supports University of Detroit Jesuit High School’s F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Team

DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SlipNOT^® Metal Safety Flooring, an innovative manufacturer of slip resistant metal safety flooring and products, has donated a $4,000 grant to the University of Detroit Jesuit High School’s Robotics Team, The RoboCubs. The University of Detroit Jesuit High School is one of the last Jesuit schools located in the city of Detroit. U of D High School is founded on the Jesuit beliefs of “forming men for others for the Greater Glory of God.” The motto, “men for others,” is one of the philosophies taught at the school that emphasizes giving back to the local community by having students participate in community service and activities that benefit the people and community. According to the recent Time magazine article, “Jesuit Message Drives Detroit’s Last Catholic School,” students at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School participate in community service every Wednesday of their senior year to help give back to the city of Detroit. In 2008, students completed over 3,500 hours of community service in the city by tutoring children, delivering food to disabled residents and volunteering at local organizations. The school also focuses on providing students with a college preparatory education that emphasizes the study of foreign language, mathematics and science curriculum. In 2009, 99% of seniors graduated and enrolled in college. The University of Detroit Jesuit also offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities.

The school’s F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Team, The RoboCubs, offers students a unique learning experience that tests students’ knowledge and creative skills. Students participating in the robotics team have the opportunity to transform their ideas into reality by building unique robots.

The RoboCubs compete each year with students from around the world. Students are responsible for building robots weighing up to 120 pounds that can complete a particular task. The teams are given a set of parts and rules beginning in January and are given six weeks to construct a robot. Teams compete in several regional competitions and a championship event.

To provide support to the robotics team, SlipNOT^® donated a $4,000 grant. The grant will help The RoboCubs attend three regional competitions and will assist in paying for supplies, travel expenses and uniforms.

By donating annually to the robotics team, SlipNOT^® hopes to assist the team in having another successful year. William S. Molnar, founder of SlipNOT^® Metal Safety Flooring, is a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and believes strongly in giving back to his alma mater. Donations can help to assist in funding extracurricular activities and scholarships to help provide financial assistance to students in need. In the past, SlipNOT^® has also donated to the Christ Child Society of Detroit and Ralph J. Bunch Elementary School in Detroit. By continuing to support local youth, William S. Molnar and SlipNOT^® utilize the values taught at U of D Jesuit High School by investing in the intellectual growth of students in the Detroit area to help build a strong foundation for future success in the community.
