LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With Sacramento the latest in a growing number of communities enacting accident response fees, both state and national polling has found that Californians are overwhelmingly opposed to so called ‘crash taxes.’
A poll by the Insurance Information Network of California recently found that 50 percent of Californians objected to cities charging fees for emergency services at traffic accidents; only 21 percent supported the fees. Moreover, 62 percent said they opposed insurers being billed for the fees. The statewide poll was conducted for IINC by the research firm of Public Opinion Strategies and had a margin of error of 3.46 percent.
In California, the typical auto insurance policy does not include coverage for this type of charge.
Nationally, a Harris Interactive Poll conducted for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America released today also found that 76 percent of those surveyed believe their taxes cover time and expenses provided by emergency crews at an accident scene.
