Fios Introduces Clarify for Early Case Intelligence

Expands e-discovery suite with new tool from Venio Systems

LegalTech New York 2011

NEW YORK--()--E-discovery service specialist Fios, Inc. today announced Clarify™, a new case intelligence tool that significantly shortens the case analysis and planning process by enabling rapid, highly intuitive evaluation of a document collection. The new SaaS-based service integrates Venio FPR™ technology from Venio Systems into Fios’ highly regarded e-discovery services suite to provide the market’s most scalable, easy-to-use, fast-to-deploy and economical offering for expediting e-discovery.

Clarify helps law firm and corporate legal teams rapidly assess the merits of a case, establish legal strategy and predict e-discovery costs by previewing electronically stored information before full processing begins. The resulting ability to quickly see a graphical representation of data volume and type, defensibly test and refine keyword searches, and identify factual discrepancies, incriminating evidence, key timelines and relevant custodians substantially reduces risk and puts control in the hands of the attorney or litigation support professional.

“We selected Venio FPR as the foundation of Clarify and our case intelligence service offering because we believe it offers the best usability and greatest flexibility of all the early analysis and assessment tools, making it a valuable addition to our clients’ e-discovery toolset,” said Jonathan Leitner, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of Fios, Inc. “This is another example of how Fios continues to aggregate the market’s strongest e-discovery technologies, and combine them with our advanced service delivery and project management capabilities, to help law firm and corporate legal teams gain control of e-discovery to reduce data volumes, accelerate review and minimize costs.”

The tool’s comprehensive analytical capabilities include date and file type analysis; identification of over 70 languages; wildcard, fuzzy and synonym, as well as keyword searches; email domain filtering; and email conversation analysis.

Advantages of Clarify over other early assessment tools include:

  • Easy-to-use, web-based user interface that everyone can understand with no need to learn how to write Boolean search strings or other complex queries, for example. Search parameters can be specified in plain English, and search term strategies can be refined with a few clicks as results reveal new intelligence or patterns.
  • Rapid, low-cost web-based deployment and maximum scalability leveraging Fios’ extensive infrastructure, eliminating the time and expense of installing, maintaining and upgrading appliance-based solutions behind the customer firewall. Data can be uploaded to the Clarify tool with no implementation delays and immediately processed for analysis.
  • More than 20 standard reports available on demand, with easy multi-format export options including Excel, PDF and email. Reports are available on a project or custodian level and include critical insights such as gap analysis, which indicates missing custodians or date ranges in the document set. Results of any query can be shared with other members of the legal team with a simple right mouse click.

“The importance of building more precise, well-founded case assessments consistently resonates in our discussions with senior corporate counsel and their external legal advisors,” said Brian Babineau, Vice President of Research and Analyst Services with Enterprise Strategy Group. “Fios Clarify will alleviate much of the budgetary and risk guesswork that plagues many matter processes involving complex electronic discovery.”

Best-of-Breed Strategy

Building on Fios’ 11 plus years of experience as a hosted e-discovery provider, the company’s selection of Venio Systems’ technology to provide enhanced case intelligence services is the latest in a series of strategic partnerships designed to propel the Fios e-discovery platform with best-of-breed components.

The Fios e-discovery suite also includes a customized version of kCura’s industry-leading Relativity e-discovery review platform, called Relativity powered by Fios; Equivio>NearDuplicates and Equivio>EmailThreads to detect and group near-duplicate files as well as narrow the email review process; and Content Analyst's CAAT conceptual search and analytical software to group and cluster related documents even if they lack common keyword or search terms.

“Fios is a pioneer in e-discovery and one of the best-known service providers in the space,” said Chris Jurkiewicz, Co-Founder of Venio Systems. “This is a significant partnership that showcases the competitive advantages of our technology as well as widespread recognition of the contribution that early analysis can make to expediting the discovery process.”

Fios will demonstrate its new Clarify service at Booth #334 during the LegalTech New York conference opening today at the Hilton New York Hotel.
