Third Party Content Can Crush Your Website’s Performance, Shows Data from Keynote Systems

-- Research Shows that Web Pages with 3rd Party Content Can Take as Much as Nine Times as Long to Load as Web Pages without 3rd Party Content

-- Upcoming Webcast and Recently Issued White Paper Address the Benefits of Third-Party Content Monitoring

SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--Keynote Systems (Nasdaq:KEYN), the global leader in Internet and mobile cloud monitoring, today announced a live Webcast and the release of a white paper both highlighting the benefits of third-party content monitoring for improved site performance. The live Webcast: “Is 3rd Party Content Crushing Your Website Performance?” featuring Jeremiah Wilson, senior user experience manager, Cars.com and Dave Karow, senior product manager, Keynote Systems is scheduled for Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET. Third party content in the form of social media feeds, images or video delivered by CDNs and advertising delivered by ad networks has become a vital part and a fact of life, for almost any successful Website. Unfortunately, according to recent findings by Keynote and others, this important and increasingly prevalent source of content and revenue is often responsible for significant Website performance degradation.

In lab tests that measured the impact of 3rd party content on website performance, researchers at Google found that ad networks and apps such as AdSense, Friend Connect, and Tribal Fusion were responsible for 12.8%, 30%, and 53% respectively of page load time*. Other 3rd party apps such as Digg, Facebook Connect, BoldChat, and Twitter widgets can also have a profound impact on site performance.

Recent testing using Keynote Virtual Pages found that loading a certain page of the Keynote corporate Website with 3rd party content can take up to nine times longer to load as the same page without 3rd party content. But since abandoning these popular and/or necessary 3rd party components is not a viable option, it becomes critically important to be able to quickly identify the root cause of any related performance issues and to fix them before they impact customers or the company’s bottom line. Keynote invites interested parties to join this Webcast to learn:

  • How 3rd party content may be impacting your site’s performance;
  • Test cases that show the latency impact of 3rd party content; and
  • How you can quickly identify, diagnose, and fix performance problems before they impact your customer.

“The more complex your Web site is, the more likely it is that its performance -- and possibly your profit margin -- is in the hands of third parties and their components that are running on your site,” said Dave Karow, senior product manager, Keynote Systems. “By using the proper performance tools in a targeted manner, both business managers and developers can effectively monitor the impact of third-party performance both on the individual component level and in the aggregate.”

To learn more about how third party content may negatively impact Web site performance and why targeted monitoring of third party content and add-ons is vital to IT and Web operations managers for optimal site performance, get a copy of the free white paper, “The Benefits of 3rd Party Content Monitoring,” by registering online.
