Peirce College Introduces New Human Resource Management Degree Program to Meet Key Sector Growth in Greater Philadelphia Region

Degree program prepares graduates to meet shift in HR functions from tactical to strategic within companies and organizations

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Peirce College has introduced a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management (HRM) to meet increasing employer demand for human resource professionals in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“We made a measured move in bringing HRM into Peirce’s portfolio. We believe this a critical area for businesses within the Philadelphia region and have invested in the faculty and resources necessary to differentiate our graduates among HR professionals”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment in HR jobs is projected to grow 22 percent over the next few years, faster than average as HR personnel take on increasingly strategic roles in companies large and small.

The human resource profession is going through a paradigm shift. No longer just the administration of people, HR has taken a strategic leadership role in organizations. The changing role means that human resource professionals are working directly with senior management to enhance productivity and increase performance within their entities.

Peirce’s degree in Human Resource Management is designed to equip students with the essential skills required to enter or advance in the HR field, or to enhance their managerial career opportunities with a solid understanding of HR principles. The HRM program will position students for work as HR generalists while simultaneously preparing them for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. The program is designed in line with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) guidelines.

“Our program will not only provide credentials and a background in all areas of human resources but it will also help develop critical thinking skills to help position graduates to become strategic partners with the leadership of their companies and organizations,” said Alicia Huppman, SPHR, Assistant Professor for Human Resource Management at Peirce College. “Those who have a Peirce degree in HR are going to be poised to compete for key roles in the field.”

According to Peirce President and Chief Executive Officer James J. Mergiotti, the College’s HR program will give students the skills that the Philadelphia region needs. “HR is about optimizing the value of human capital which is an essential facet of business. This program focuses on developing HR professionals who significantly influence their organizations’ bottom lines and, ultimately, the region’s economic performance,” Mergiotti said.

The development of Peirce’s degree in Human Resource Management was the product of ongoing research. “We made a measured move in bringing HRM into Peirce’s portfolio. We believe this a critical area for businesses within the Philadelphia region and have invested in the faculty and resources necessary to differentiate our graduates among HR professionals,” said Patricia A. Rucker, Ed.D., Senior Vice President, Academic Advancement and Provost at Peirce.

“We will always need people to manage people. The skills students build in this program will positively impact managers and leaders across all industry sectors,” Rucker said.

Peirce College’s program is structured to accommodate the needs of students with transfer credits as well as incoming freshmen. Credit for prior experience is part of the transfer credit benefit. Students will be able to enroll full- or part-time and enjoy the flexibility of completing the entire program online, face-to-face, or in a blend of the two delivery methods. Faculty members include certified field professionals.
