DANIA BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Divers Direct, the world's largest retailer of scuba diving equipment, is proud to host its first annual "Scrub & Grub" reef and beach cleanup to benefit multiple locations throughout the state of Florida on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
Each of the 5 Divers Direct Florida Dive Shops in Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Key Largo and Key West will spearhead its own cleanup of a local beach, coral reef, or both. The cleanup will be followed by a celebration at each location with food and beverages for all participants to show our thanks and gratitude for taking part in this meaningful effort to preserve our beaches and oceans for many generations to come. Prizes will be awarded to participants who collect the most trash. As divers and lovers of the ocean, we wish to bring awareness to the necessity of maintaining the health of the aquatic environment by engaging in "green" practices when enjoying this natural resource.
Divers, snorkelers and beach-lovers alike will have the opportunity to participate in this effort. Each Divers Direct store will maintain a list of participants and provide collection bags to all who sign up. We are also partnering with dive boat operators in Islamorada and Miami to provide a boat diving option for those who prefer to do a "deeper" clean. Interested divers should contact the Divers Direct stores in Key Largo or Fort Lauderdale to inquire about those options, as well as pay the $50 boat diving fee to Divers Direct. Tanks will be available for rental at our Orlando, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale dive shops on a limited basis for divers who do not have their own.
