LAS VEGAS--()--Wilocity, a leading developer of 60 GHz multi-gigabit wireless chipsets for the mobile computing, consumer electronics and peripheral markets, today announced that it is demonstrating its 60 GHz multi-gigabit wireless chipset at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show. Wilocity’s multi-gigabit tri-band wireless computing and networking solution was recognized as a 2011 CES Innovations Honoree for Enabling Technologies. This groundbreaking solution enables tri-band networking and peripheral connectivity at speeds up to 5 Gbps, more than ten times faster than today’s Wi-Fi. The demonstration at CES is the first 60 GHz wireless solution for data communication.

Based on the Wireless Gigabit Alliance 60 GHz MAC/PHY and IEEE 802.11ad specification, Wilocity’s multi-gigabit wireless solution delivers unprecedented wireless performance and flexibility for multiple applications. Consumers will be able to:

  • Access tri-band wireless networking capabilities which leverage the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 60 GHz bands for seamless “whole-home” coverage coupled with multi-gigabit speeds
  • Leverage multi-gigabit Wi-Fi to share and backup content virtually instantaneously
  • Expand the functionality, enhance the performance, and extend the usability of their thin and light mobile computing devices with new interfaces and capabilities
  • Store and stream media at multi-gigabit speeds to a TV, PC or tablet

Technology Solution Partners

AtherosWilocity and Atheros, leaders in 60 GHz and dual-band 802.11n technologies, have partnered to jointly develop tri-band solutions to enable the next-generation wireless ecosystem. Wilocity and Atheros’ tri-band system will allow consumers to connect to peripherals such as displays or storage at multi-gigabit speeds while maintaining “whole home” wireless network coverage.

AzureWaveWilocity has partnered with AzureWave, a global leading module maker for wireless solutions, to build the world’s first tri-band half-mini card with the Wilocity Wil6120 chipset and the Atheros 9350 chipset as well as the Wilocity DockingZone™. The DockingZone houses various application-specific interfaces, allowing the mobile device to become a thin and light local device with its peripherals and interfaces implemented and distributed remotely.

Buffalo Technology  Wilocity and Buffalo are both investigating how to develop and innovate with 60 GHz multi-gigabit wireless devices, especially with advanced storage devices. PLXWilocity has engaged with PLX in the development of its first wireless bus extension technology, Wireless PCI Express (wPCIe™). PLX is a leader in developing PCI Express® solutions, and the PLX PEX8505 PCI Express switch has been incorporated into Wilocity’s technology demonstration, enabling multi-gigabit data transfers.

S3 Graphics Wilocity is working with S3 Graphics to deliver the first wireless graphics processing unit as part of the DockingZone. S3 Graphics is a leading provider of innovative graphics visualization technologies for embedded high-definition (HD) and display-wall markets.

SMSC Wilocity is partnering with SMSC to enable high-definition wireless video connectivity using SMSC’s USB 3.0 remote graphics capabilities and Wilocity’s 60 GHz wireless connectivity.
